Goddammit my Senator, Maria Cantwell pisses me off

Whenever I've contacted her about an issue I get a smarmy form-email back that clearly shows that no one reads what her constituents are sending her. Which indicates to me that she doesn't give a damn.

Yesterday I emailed her, Senator Murray, and Rep. Jay Inslee about removing Limbaugh from the Armed Forces Network. Murray and Inslee reply in ways that show they read the emails they get - in Murray's case I would assume it's someone on her staff, but Inslee has surprised me in the past with what seems like a personal answer - thoughtful and completely on target.

But Cantwell - here's what I just got from her regarding Limbaugh - "Thank you for contacting me regarding the Institutes of Medicine's rules for women's preventative services. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue." followed by many, many paragraphs of yadda, yadda.

She's done some good in the area of Environmental issues, but some of her voting record just out and out sucks. I wish a solid Progressive would run against her in the next primary.

I've felt that way for a long time. Some of her votes have really pissed me off. She is definitely the more pro Corporate of my two Senators.

4. I've had the same experience.

I get sensible replies from Murray and Dicks, but not so much from Cantwell.

I think her office has a computer database where an intern reads the letter and clicks the checkbox for the "appropriate" topic from about 4 possible selections; "anwr" "women's issues" "microsoft" and "I'm not a corporate shill so stop saying that".

I don't think her intern has done anything more than setting up a javascript generated reply to the dropdown selection of issues you are forced to select.

5. I had Rick Santorum as a senator for 8 years

and rest assured there are thousands of DUers who would love to be stuck with a senator like Maria Cantwell over what they currently have.

But she still pisses me off on a fairly regular basis. On the other hand there are times when she does our state proud.
