LAFAYETTE, La. (NBC33) - A 78-year-old woman was arrested for disturbing the peace after she yelled and cursed at her neighbor during an argument.
According to the arrest report, the incident happened on Saturday. The Lafayette Police Department responded to a home on Elizabeth Street and spoke to the victim.
"The suspect [Hellen Burley] came to his residence and began to curse and yell at him," the report noted. "The victim advised that he got his cell phone and began to record the suspect yelling and cursing at him."
The officer watched the video and believed there was enough probable cause to arrest the 4-foot-10-inch elderly woman.
Burley has a prior arrest for a violation of the city's leash law and interfering with the duties of an animal control officer.

(28,581 posts)It creates a false sense of sympathy for a person of advanced years based on a silly societal belief that all older people are frail and gentle. Otherwise, they would have just called her a woman.
The same thing happened in another case this week where a 45 year old woman was called a grandma in the headline as a means of garnering sympathy for whatever reason.
I suppose maybe the authors of the articles want the shock value of the title to get people to read it.

(20,277 posts)What's wrong with calling somebody a 'grandma' if they are in fact, a grandma.
