5:11: And it's officially official: "I'm proud to announce my candidacy to be the 48th Governor of the State of Texas!" Crowd erupts at that, and at every subsequent line for the next couple minutes. "Good is never good enough"? Huge cheers. "Texans do not want to sit back and watch Austin turned into Washington DC"? Another one. This is an enthusiastic crowd.

(3,194 posts)Good luck with that. The repubs have had that state locked down pretty tightly. She has much to overcome, and that's not even taking into account all the funny business the repubs will certainly pull to prevent her rise.

(3,069 posts)but thanks for shitting on our great news. It is very helpful. FYI, I have never seen so many of my friends engaged in anything political, my feed is full of folks cheering the news and pledging to be involved. People who can't usually be bothered to vote are excited about Davis

(3,194 posts)I've just grown to accept Texas for what it is. A repub stronghold, especially where the Governorship is concerned.
There have been some incredibly shitty Governors in Texas, especially the current one, so it would be great to see a Democrat take control. I just honestly don't see it happening, but don't take that to mean I wouldn't welcome it with open arms, even as someone from California.

(3,069 posts)I get so tired of people writing us off down here every time we get excited about anything. Davis may not win, she will have a tough go, but we may yet surprise you. There is a lot happening around here. Like I said, I have never seen so many of my coworkers and friends be excited about ANYthing political especially in an off time.

(145,554 posts)Senator Davis did a good job. I think that she has a chance given the weakness of Greg Abbott

(2,397 posts)I think I'm going to have a crush on her. She has the "No BS" attitude I admire.
I'll also be reading every speech she gives. What a day it will be if she wins.
