http://www.newsday.com/news/new-york/alexian-lien-s-family-we-were-in-grave-danger-1.6188538The wife of the SUV driver beaten in Sunday's bloody motorcycle melee said in a statement yesterday that her husband sped away because he and his wife feared for their lives.
"We were faced with a life-threatening situation and my husband was forced under the circumstances to take the actions that he did in order to protect the lives of our entire family," said the statement, which was released by the family's attorneys.
The statement by Roslyn Ng, wife of SUV driver Alexian Lien, 33, expressed sympathy for injured motorcyclist Edward Mieses Jr., 32, of Massachusetts, whose family said was paralyzed after being run over by Lien.
"Our plan last Sunday was to celebrate our wedding anniversary by having a nice family day with our two-year-old daughter," the statement said. "Unfortunately, instead we were placed in grave danger by a mob of reckless and violent motorcyclists."

(5,068 posts)with their helmets and slashing their tires with knives. Any sane person with half a brain would have tried to escape. I feel bad for the guy that is paralyzed but he should not have been participating in that crowd mentality melee. The way that gang was cutting in and out of traffic, going through red lights and speeding down sidewalks, it is a miracle more people were not injured or killed.

I watched a few of their videos and was shocked. Going full bore on a sidewalk?! Running lights, cutting between cars, driving at excess speed in the city.. The riding on the sidewalk! What if someone is in a wheelchair? How can they get out of the way? Or pushing a stroller? Or walking their dog who gets loose from panic and is then hit by a car? WTH.
I hope they've learned a lesson. I hope the man who's hurt will be ok too. People were wishig him death on his Facebook
