Source: Schizophrenia meds found at home of woman in Capitol shooting

Authorities investigating why a Connecticut woman rammed barricades near the U.S. Capitol found medications in her apartment to treat schizophrenia and other mental disorders, a law enforcement source briefed on the investigation said Friday.
The woman, identified by law enforcement officials as Miriam Carey, 34, was shot dead Thursday.

Carey's boyfriend contacted police in December saying he feared for the safety of their child, who was 4 months old at the time, according to a law enforcement source involved in the investigation. The boyfriend said the woman was acting delusional, claiming the president had placed Stamford under lockdown and that her house was under electronic surveillance, the source said.

1. Yep, hearing voices. I wondered about that when I saw the video.

I have a a couple of friends that had Schizophrenia and heard voices. Normal all the time, except when the voices "God" would tell him that he had to do this urgently or the world would end. Medicine never helped, he just learned to ignore the voices and that the voices were just his imagination. I asked him once if the voices ever gave him any information he did not know already. He thought about it for a couple of days and told me no they didn't. He said jot must be his imagination and never had a problem again. He said he still hears things, but he just ignores them. Really weird that he had spent 3 years with shrinks and meds and they had never helped him.

And was getting treatment.

How the hell would the ACA have made any difference?

Would that have pumped more phsyc drugs into her system?

I assume you knew that when you decided to hit-and-run my post.

The ACA will make a tremendous difference in the USA. But you already know that too!

12. ACA will not fix our broken mental health care. My husband had insurance when he suffered

major depression. He was having life threatening self mutilation thoughts. He was told he would have to wait two months to see a doctor. He begged for his life and one doctor finally agreed to see him. Mental health care in this country is broken and no ACA will not fix that.

11. Most likely she stopped taking her meds, because she was receiving treatment

according to http://www.courant.com/news/connecticut/hc-capitol-shooting-1004-20131003,0,5388938,full.story

she was taking medications, which would need to be prescribed by a doctor, she had been hospitalized. From the article it sounds as long as she was on her meds she was was a pleasant, happy person according to family and co-workers. Best guess is for some reason she stopped taking her pills, had a major mental health episode and then drove to DC with her child.

On edit: There is nothing to suggest that the poor woman had no access to mental healthcare. She had access and was being treated. Unfortunately at this point it seems she chose to stop taking the medications and we'll probably never know why.
