The counter on MoveOn.org just past the Billion dollar mark.
http://www.moveon.org/costoftheshutdown/
This ONE MAN is not allowing a vote on a Clean CR, and thus is costing taxpayers ONE BILLION dollars already while impeding democracy. There are enough votes in the House to pass a clean CR, but this is not about democracy, it is about extortion.
The Republicans want to get something out of this #GOPshutdown.
Well, they are getting something, THE BLAME!
And we need to place that blame on the person holding the power to put a clean CR to a vote, Rep. John Boehner.
End #Boehnersshutdown now, before #boehnersbillion becomes billions and billions.

"Our nation cannot afford to be held hostage by the irresponsible and immature actions of members of your party. As speaker of the House, it's time for you to act like an adult, and call a vote on a clean budget resolution."

http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2013/10/03/2727031/greg-walden-tea-party-shutdown/Walden, who chairs the National Republican Congressional Committee (the House GOPs campaign arm), reportedly told a group of top Republican donors that the Tea Partys organizational strength meant that Republicans had to shutdown the government and obstruct a debt-ceiling increase.
Listen, Walden told them, We have to do this because of the Tea Party. If we dont, these guys are going to get primaried and they are going to lose their primary. .....
