Strategery question: why not start running ad campaigns assigning blame to the GOP?

Billboards, internet ads, radio, I don't know what. No, I don't know who would be best to fund such a campaign. But if such funds were available, it means we aren't dependent on the media to fight this meme war.

And it is really crucial that a large majority of Americans blame the GOP for this.

No need. Those paying attention already get it, those not paying attention don't care. nt Demo_Chris Oct 2013 #12

Otherwise Fox would go into overdrive accusing the WH of using money to "spread lies" instead of negotiating to re-open the govt.

The worth of 21 hours of free public advertising for the Ted Cruz Road Show Kickoff? Not to mention the hours and hours and clips and clips and responses and responses and merrymaking. I think some organization like Grown Ups for Health Sanity and Awareness should orchestrate a series of informational Q & A...ongoing up to 21 hours.

The Republicans seem to be doing an excellent job of destroying themselves.
Self immolation. Defenestration. Seppuku. What have you.
It's thoroughly enjoyable entertainment for the whole family !!

But the last polls I saw indicate that around 20% of the public "isn't blaming the GOP" That's ignoring the 25% that constitute the GOP base, which I assume we can write off automatically, as usual.

The voting demographics and current gerrymandered districts add up to the fact that the GOP is unlikely to suffer any *immediate* major electoral losses from this. But a massive public opinion defeat is achievable.

I don't see how they could do any better. But everything they say and do is filtered through our crappy "both-sides-do-it" political journalism. An ad campaign would be another channel to get the word out.

There is going to be the usual 25% who will side with the GOP no matter what, but nearly half of the remainder is still unclear about who is actually responsible for this debacle.

Both James Fowles and some New Republic writer both agreed that the emphasis should be in the GOPers, though for only somewhat diff. reasons. Consensus was that taking a this side/that side approach was creating a position.

and that 1% includes us and Jon Stewart's staff so really only a small number of people who are misinformed (by choice) about the shutdown.

But if there was to be an ad, how about audio from "Anarchy in the UK (USA)" under pictures of Boehner and his fellow anarchists getting drunk and shutting down the gov?

The lyrics include this sound bite from early in the week:

Don't know what I want but I know how to get it..."

The fact that none of the D-aligned PACs are doing that should be an indication...
