I just talked a Repub woman into applying for health insurance.
She's not a close friend, but someone I see regularly. She doesn't have a doctor and has been avoiding medical care because of the cost. The bill for one trip to the emergency room several years ago might have shocked her into getting some, but she couldn't afford it. (The hospital ended up waiving most of the costs.)
Now she's going to apply, with the help of a computer-saavy niece, and she's going to tell her two out-of-state daughters to apply, too. And then -- since she's outgoing and active in her Church -- I hope she convinces a bunch of them to apply, too.
I gave her a piece of paper with the address: healthcare.gov
and told her it was important to get that address right, because there is a non-ACA (I said "fake" site at healthcare.com.
I gave her enough details (about Medicaid vs. the Exchange; about deductibles and co-pays, and premiums; about annual maximums she would have to pay) so she'd be mentally prepared for the kind of choices she'd have to make once she started to apply.
Now I'm wondering who else I know who might not be ensured . . .
