Where Poor and Uninsured Americans Live

http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2013/10/02/us/uninsured-americans-map.html

The 26 Republican-dominated states not participating in an expansion of Medicaid are home to a disproportionate share of the nation’s poorest uninsured residents. Eight million will be stranded without insurance.

Note that the South is decked out in red and orange much like the forests of New England in autumn -- except for urban area like Atlanta, New Orleans and Memphis. Y'know, the ones that vote Dem.

Unfortunately, "Due to the lapse in government funding, census.gov sites, services, and all online survey collection requests will be unavailable until further notice."

We are the exception to the rule, it seems. The facts in the article are correct, but you really didn't need to add that last part. It always makes those of us who live in Republican led states and vote for the Democratic Party every single time feel like you outright hate us if we do not live in one of the bigger cities. There is no need for that. We are part of the same party, ya know. Just because I cannot afford to live in the bigger cities doesn't mean my vote counts any less than any other vote for the Democratic Party.

Trust me. No one hates them more than those of us who did not vote for them but are stuck with them anyhow.

If you are rural, your vote is actually MORE important than the urban ones. The cities tend to be sane and safely dark purple, if not blue. IMHO

The Democrats have given up in rural counties because we get solidly trounced. It's not worth it to raise money in the rural counties & run a Democratic candidate.

I have a Congresscretin that I did not vote for, Joe Barton.
I have two senators, Cornhole and Carnival Cruz, that I did not vote for.
I have a governor, Goodhair Perry, I did not vote for.
They represent big corporations. They don't represent me.

I am a yellow dog democrat. I have never ever voted for a Republican politician.

I have not had health insurance since my husband got laid off in 2006.
I am paying off a hospital bill for a crisis at $25 a month.
