The proper response to "hostage release" is "there are some hostage takers we don't negotiate with."

ie, terrorists.

Carney isn't that quick though but I think it would've been insanely obvious and brilliant to say. I yelled at the TV today when he didn't say it and kept getting mixed up over this analogy.

And the negotiation is usually on a ransom and not about what limbs should or should not be removed from the hostage.

It's a terrible analogy.

It was a way to make the Republican effort look like negotiating hostage release. The Democrats did, after all, agree to funding for the military. That was the first hostage.

The UK and other countries have successfully got back hostages of terrorists. The US is where the majority of the on camera executions happen.

It's just a talking point that would've been good.

Whatever, others don't seem to agree, I was only saying as a response to the analogy that boxed Cerney in and he fumbled the entire time in that presser after that (granted they'd already entered "repeat the same questions" mode and he just gave the same answers worded differently).
