Obamacare. She posted about the end of life counseling and lack of treatment after 75 which was in HR 3200 but not in the final HR 4872 which was passed. Her post had already been proven false by Snopes and I guess some just can not stand hearing the truth. Oh, well, guess you can't convince the RWer's Obamacare is good.

Also got dis-invited from his son's wedding. Which didn't bother me, one bit.

(108 posts)I've been hiding lots of posts recently by friends and family on Facebook that contain either gross mischaracterizations of or outright lies about the ACA and/or the government shutdown issue. At first, I tried the simple and rational approach of refuting the posts with links to articles/websites that correct the information posted. I have tried very hard to be information rather than inflammatory. Unfortunately, the responses (from friends and family mind you) have been disappointing. Instead of refuting my explanation/view, the responses routinely take the approach of (i) claiming I am a left wing apologist; (ii) citing more incorrect information and completely ignoring the point I had just refuted; (iii) admitting that the information is incorrect but saying it doesn't matter because the point is still valid (example: posting a cartoon that implies all members of Congress, no matter how long they served, earn pensions equal to their current salaries for life-not true-then responding to my refutation of that false claim by pointing out that it goes without saying that their pensions are too high); or falling back to the tried and true President Obama is [a failure/a socialist/the worst President ever/an inffective leader, etc., etc.]. Finally, I just started hiding the posts that are clearly mistaken or incorrect.

(2,431 posts)#1 conversation-ender: pointing out a logical fallacy or well-debunked talking point of theirs. Instead of triggering critical thinking, it almost always triggers the fight-or-flight instinct.
I'm not trying to be sly or witty with that -- it's the truth and it's damn frustrating because I know that I can't just block everyone I don't agree with like I'm gonna "deal with them later when the water/race/holy war begins..."

They don't care about Snopes. It's a big liberal conspiracy owned by Soros and run by two leftie 'perfessors.
