(41,998 posts)She just went a long way toward redeeming my opinion of her autonomy-- that was a bad ass political statement and funny as hell.

(10,362 posts)She's an entertainer keeping the nation entertained. What's so hate-worthy about her? Do people really think it's more than an act?

(41,998 posts)The means she used to outgrow her "Hanna Montana" persona were sexualized. What I worried about was her actual ability to make informed decisions about that in the music industry. I still wonder.
While I have arguments about the over sexualization of girls and women, I have none against autonomy. This kid just made a political statement. Parts of the video make me uncomfortable--inferring that Boehner and Ryan are gay for instance could be construed as homophobic--but Cyrus making a political statement gives me hope for her. Especially as it's on our side. Billy Ray Cyrus is a Democrat and he son of a Democrat Let's hope Miley is carrying on the tradition.

(4,876 posts)That thing on the VMA's wasn't good, it wasn't funny, it wasn't sexy, it wasn't provocative. It was sad.
Sad like Idol, or X Factor or The Voice.
Sad in a Pro Tools, Pitch Correction, Auto Tuned, kinda way.
Sad that I have to spend hours and hours digging deep to find decent new music while I can't seem to get away from her and her "talents".

There is a lot of good music out there; it depends on what you like. If you listen to top 40 radio, you can't be surprised when all you hear is Top 40 radio.

ZOMG! Sex! Drugs! Lewd Gyrations! Co-opting of African American culture! When have those ever been a part of good wholesome rock and roll???????
Fucking cracks me up. If the "oh no! heavens! sex!" mom jeans crowd really wants their kids to stop listening to something, the ONLY way they'll get them to do it is to put it on their own ipods and blast it out the window of the minivan at school pick-up.

(34,857 posts)That makes her a slut. People don't like sluts.
Of course, when men do it, when guys like Zach Efron or whatever, go shirtless and act out their sexuality, they're studs and jocks and cool.
So, yeah. I never had an issue with her 'twerking'. I didn't like the dance, but people really got their panties in a wad over that one.

(21,478 posts)She did very well, and I go back to the 1975 version. Kind of the age my granddaughter might be if I had one, but she's talented, and good for her on SNL.
well if you act like that it might as well be for a good reason!
