(57,936 posts)Security cuts. The numbers of baby boomers is just huge. The thought of Social Security benefits for all of us is quite baffling. But it is going to have to be done. There is no alternative. Social Security benefits are about as low as they could be. On average they barely keep a person above the poverty level -- just a few dollars over. They can't be reduced. Taxes will have to rise. That's all there is to it. Seniors on Social Security are not living high on the hog. Not unless they have supplemental pensions that are very generous. And ordinary retirees are not making money from their savings or 401(K)s right now. The profits, if there are any, are just on paper and come and go. Stock market investments are not real for people of modest means.
