Undercover NYPD detective charged for role in Manhattan biker gang beatdown

An undercover NYPD detective swapped his biker’s helmet for handcuffs Tuesday after a video captured his hands-on role in a motorcycle mob’s attack on a helpless dad.

Wojchiech Braszczok, 32, was charged with riot and criminal mischief for pounding on a stopped SUV as driver Alexian Lien cowered inside with his wife and their 2-year-old daughter.

Braszczok’s lies to police brass were exposed when damning taped evidence of his participation in the terrifying Sept. 29 chase and assault in Manhattan surfaced, according to sources.

The 10-year veteran cop — who sources confirmed had done undercover work in Occupy Wall Street posing as a protester — surrendered with his civilian lawyer and was taken to Manhattan Central Booking, a police source said. The suspect lost his union attorney after friction over his bogus story, sources said.

Do you ever met someone who pings your radar for no particular reason?

ETA: Apparently, sweatshop protesters are a menace to society per the D.C. cops.

There was something of a controversy here in the UK about undercover police infiltrating environmentalist groups and taking to their roles so successfully that they'd had relationships with, and in one case I believe fathered children by, some of the people they were spying on.

There are some serious moral questions about using undercover police for that sort of infiltration, not least of all the extent to which they may go to maintain their credibility with the group they're meant to be infiltrating (to the point of committing or participating in criminal acts...as may be the case here).

A larger question really is: should we blame this police officer, or should we blame the police organisation that put him in this situation in the first place?

worth noting his scummy undercover Occupy role?

and the answer to your question is both- though the police infrastructure deserves more.

considering that he's a police detective evidently assigned to undercover work and infiltration; it's not really any surprise at all that the NYPD were infiltrating the Occupy movement.

or just a member of the gang?

on edit: Yeah, he was under cover. But I don't see anything saying he was on duty. Seems unclear to me whether he was on duty or not.

They arrested this pig for beating on an SUV. Yet how often do cops get away with shooting unarmed people and our pets? Unbelievable.

The NYPD probably put a lot of undercover cops in there. Probably every department did that all over the country. That's what the higher ups (higher than the police department heads) wanted. Blame those higher ups and the coward department heads that were ok with it. The police department heads need to stand up to the tyranny of politicians.

And blame this undercover cop for what HE did in lying to his superiors and taking part in damaging the Lien's SUV. There was no reason for him to do that to protect his cover since most of the other bikers didn't involve themselves in that either.
