One of my brainwashed right wing friend bit on this and swallowed it hook, line, and sinker and sent this link to me

(23,664 posts)The answer for Ms. Dionne is not the current system nor is it Obamacare.
What she needs is a single payer system. Apparently she didn't learn deductive reasoning at the University of Michigan.
Snake Plissken
(4,103 posts)According to the numbers provided she qualifies for Medicaid, and did so even before the ACA was enacted.

(56,177 posts)Did anyone at this dumbphuck station verify that or just go with some letter allegedly written by someone and sent to Dennis Prager? This is journalism??
Warpy
(111,270 posts)without being able to write a coherent letter.
If her point is to complain about the ACA, why is she complaining about not being hired at low wage work? Isn't the degree supposed to prevent having to work at low wage jobs? Employers have been discriminating against the educated for a very long time, from when I was in my 20s and I'm old.
Second, while I don't know the particulars of her insurance plan, I do know that once graduated, she will no longer qualify for the cheap student plan, ACA or not. If she's under 26, she will be covered under her parents' plan and you can't get much cheaper than that.
If she's on SSD and Medicare, one wonders what the problem is, period.
Her numbers and story are both highly suspect and her letter is a mess.
No wonder wingnuts love it.

(26,044 posts)At the hours and salary she mentioned, in Michigan, she'd be eligible for FREE healthcare under the Medicaid expansion that was part of the ACA.
That story is a lie through-and-through. Unfortunately, we may be about to see another Repug use of the Goebbels principle that "a lie repeated often enough becomes the truth."

(34,074 posts)Not an adequate plan for someone with asthma, ulcers, and cerebral palsy.
It covers two preventative doctor's visits a year, preventative dental and vision, and hospitalization (at either 30% coinsurance or 50% coinsurance). It does not cover outpatient treatment. You get a discount on medication - somehow I don't think that will be adequate for someone with the collection of conditions listed.
In addition, although she didn't say, I suspect the reason she is in the market at age 26 is that she was eligible to stay on her parents plan until then BECAUSE of the ACA.

(8,311 posts)I was admitted this year for an exacerbation for two nights without insurance. Yikes.
Ms. Toad
(34,074 posts)admission to the hospital (an approved one) would cost her 30-50% coinsurance. Not to mention the medication, much of which is classed as a specialty drug (which makes it more costly).
moriah
(8,311 posts)In it, she claims she makes $8.00 an hour and only works a 32 hour workweek.
Her income is therefore less than $13,500, which would qualify her for Medicaid. She lives in Michigan from her post, which accepted the Medicaid expansion.
In addition, information thanks to notadmblnd in the thread I started on this before someone pointed yours out, the KFF says that the premiums for her age in Michigan are under $200 a month, not $300.
Jacoby365
(451 posts)and was complaining about the $319 insurance cost. She admitted she is eligible for Medicaid, and said she needs insurance, but will probably pay the fine because she can't afford the $319 and she doesn't want to be on Medicaid.
