Law of unintended consequences -- friends who work for the govn't are looking for other jobs
OK, perhaps this is what the GOPissers wanted but they're not going to like the results.
I have several friends who work for different branches of the federal govn't and they're done -- they're actively seeking other jobs. What's the problem? They're all highly educated -- lawyers (defending against the nasty guys for HUD) and PhDs who were so shocked that they could be "layed off" that they figured there's no difference between the govn't sector and the private sector -- except for pay. Their reasoning is "if the same thing can happen here or there, why not go where the money is better, even if it's short term?"
The determent is we're losing our best and brightest. These people wanted to work for the government because they used to believe in it, and, frankly, they wanted the job security. No more. Some friends are being called back but won't get paid until the shutdown is over -- whenever that is. Others are using this time off to interview. Yes, the private sector is drooling for all this brain influx. I can't blame my friends -- they have mortgages and families that relied on the income.
