So my son-in-law's military severance (GI Bill) is being held up by Issa

He got out of the Marines after 8 years a couple of months ago and is owed a sizable chunk of money plus last active duty pay.

That is being held up now with the shutdown.

So he goes into his Representative's office who happens to be none other than Darryl Issa. The office help listens to his concerns about not being able to pay his bills and then rudely hand him a form to fill out. He said they were "dicks".

Then yesterday he calls the D.C. office of Issa to voice his concern and the intern says that the D.C. office only handles Federal issues and he would need to contact the district office in California. Apparently Federal pay and severance is now not a Federal issue?

He should be receiving his mid month pay as usual. Did he change banks?

What money is he owed? Did he sell leave? Is it travel pay? Did he file his travel orders?

If he has been out several months, could be something else. This just came to a halt a week ago.

Did he speak with the school VA rep? Sometimes those people won't process the paperwork until the school census date. They don't want to set up payments for a full course of classes, then you decide to drop etc.
