As Republicans search for new ways to cave on their attempt to take the country hostage and call it winning, Rasmussen (pollster to the Republican stars) has President Obamas approval rating on the rise at levels not seen since last spring. Obama currently has a 51% approval rating per Thursdays Presidential tracking poll.
Fifty-one percent of likely voters approve of President Obamas job performance, while 47% disapprove. This should help spike the GOP over to the bargaining table with a clean debt ceiling offer (sans legislative dirty bombs, please), if the Koch defection wasnt enough of a push.
Its not all roses for Obama but of course, he isnt ever going to run for office again, whereas Republicans are. Thirty percent strongly approve of the way Obama is performing as president and 37% strongly disapprove. Rasmussen notes, This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -7. Or it means that among the extremists in both parties, conservative Republicans currently hate Obama (no news there) more than Democrats or liberals approve. This is a daily tracking poll, so it makes sense that conservatives are especially angry whereas liberals are worried about what Obama will concede.

(21,215 posts)My opinion has gone up. I like he is standing strong and calling them out. He will never get the 36% that is hard right but 51% looks good to me. People are paying attention and there is a big magnifying glass on the rethugs. Show those kochroaches for the cretins they are.

(18 posts)The average of all polls for Obama is 43%.
Rasmussen has him at 51%.
This means that when it comes to job approval, the Rasmussen poll is actually generous to Obama.
What you said would be more consistent with Rasmussen's election performance.

(18 posts)Does Rasmussen underestimate his approval compared to other pollsters?
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)He predicted a Bush landslide in 2000. He was off on races in 2010. 2012 he has Romney winning. FOXNEWS uses his polls.
I never take his polls to have any meaning. No matter whether they are good or bad for Obama.

(18 posts)You told me about election match-up polls, not about what I asked (job approval polls).
Does Rasmussen consistenly have Obama with a job approval that is lower than most other pollsters?
hrmjustin
(71,265 posts)Yes I am very aware what it is.
I don't trust his polls.

(45,274 posts)that there is no "gold standard" (e.g. an election) against which to validate them. The closest you get to a validity check is concurrent validity--do the various polls agree with each other?

(18 posts)And that certain way is such, they claim, that one should add several points to Rasmussen's approval in order to come up with the "real" approval.
I've been asking for the reasoning behind that claim, in the form of a comparison between Rasmussens job-approval numbers and other pollsters' numbers. No answer yet.
