1. Yes, it's been an absurd enterprise for a couple hundred years, since it went industrial.

It just doesn't really pay anymore. But we hate to give it up. We like the illusions of power it gives us.

I'm in the midst of reading a Peoples History of the United States by Howard Zinn and he lays out how great the military/government

union works out so well for the industrialists. Afterall, when all the bridges, roads, and schools are built and repaired where is the profit?
