The Senate Repubs have decided to try and save the House Repubs from themselves.

That is the only reason they filibustered the motion to open the government.

Because, if the House Repubs lose this battle, then the Senate Repubs lose their only chance to take back the Senate next year. This is about political survival.

I'm hoping the President lets them simmer in their juices a little longer.

How should we look at this vote? The Senate Repubs want to make a deal. They cannot afford to look like the losers that they are. The President is going to have to throw them a life line. But make no mistake, the President is holding the stronger hand.

Before any deals are made, the President should inform the people that the Congress is bound by the Constitution to pay our nation's debts. They cannot shirk that responsibility. Democrats stand on the side of the Constitution and the Republicans in the Senate and the House stand on the side of the extremist Tea Party that leads them around by the nose...
