Statement from Jay Carney on today's Senate GOP filibuster of a clean debt ceiling hike

'Unfortunate'

David Kurtz

Statement from Jay Carney on today's Senate GOP filibuster of a clean debt ceiling hike:

Congress must do its job and raise the debt limit to pay the bills we have incurred and avoid default. It is unfortunate that the common sense, clean debt limit increase proposed by Senate Democrats was refused a yes or no vote today. This bill would have taken the threat of default off the table, and given our nation's businesses and the economy the certainty we need. With five days until the government runs out of borrowing authority, Congress needs to move forward with a solution that reopens the government and allows us to pay our bills so we can move on to the business of achieving a broader budget deal that creates jobs, grows the economy and strengthens the middle class.

If this isn't resolved or looks very likely to be resolved by noon on Tuesday then he is to sell all my securities and move to a cash position. The only bond funds I hold are commercial and not government. Then at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday I will go to my 401K and sell all my equities and move to cash.

When more and more people do this the market is going to plunge deep red. The entire global financial system is going to disintegrate.

Jeez, what a time to take a break, huh?

House adjourns, full focus now on Senate

The House of Representatives adjourned for the weekend on Saturday without voting on a measure to re-open the federal government or raise the nation’s debt ceiling. Attention is now focused squarely on the Senate where negotiations between leaders are on-going and several proposals are being considered.

A frustrated House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said in an afternoon press conference that he would not ask House Democrats to stay in town over the weekend unless votes are called. None were expected and a spokesperson in Hoyer’s office confirmed that Democratic members were leaving Washington.

The next scheduled votes in the House are set for 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

Not all of these guys are bat shit crazy. I am quite sure many of them demanded an opportunity to head home to speak to their constituents before they made the final decision to jump off the cliff.

They all say the "Senate" did! It was NOT the Senate, it was the minority party.
