I was reading a story about how United Healthcare fired thousands of doctors in Connecticut.
The story was a bit vague on details, so I went to the comment section to see if I could find more info. Didn't have much luck.
You will be surprised to find out just how much of this is YOUR fault:

Funny how during the election so many women were protesting, sometimes even grabbing their crotch shouting Republicans keep government out of my vagina. Yet these same women hail ObamaCare which is government not only in their vagina but in control of their entire body health.

And certainly run up more than their "fair share" of "wellness" bills.
Equality, and all that.
Each to their "needs".... or something.

(90 posts)I like to think I have a thick skin, but I just can't handle comments sections pretty much anywhere, it seems like they are always filled with the most vulgar of the lowest common denominators. I always expect people to write the worst things there, and lo-and-behold: They do just that. People are so bold when they're hidden behind a screen of anonymity.
These people, make me sick. It's always the worst who shout the loudest, even in seemingly liberal areas, like CT.

(32,610 posts)The story is so poorly written. United Health Care has been heavily promoted to seniors by AARP. UHC used to offer only Medicare Advantage policies to those over 65. Then last year or the year before they started offering Medicare/Medigap Supplementals as well.
One of the big differences between Medicare Advantage and Medicare/Medigap Supplemental is that you must see a doctor in the network with the Advantage program but with the Medigap policy you can pick any doctor. Also, with the Advantage program I believe you need a referral from your GP to see a specialist but with regular Medicare/Medigap you can just call for an appointment. So from the article it appears that UHC is delisting some doctors from the network list in the Advantage program. Perhaps more people are buying regular Medicare supplementals instead of the Advantage programs and there is less need for doctors in a network.
The Advantage programs cost the government more but I do not know why exactly. Perhaps the payment schedules for doctors/labs/hospitals/etc are higher with Advantage than with regular Medicare.
