I don't understand why we can't just give them what they want.

They want government out of their lives. Why not just let them opt out of citizenship and all the perks that go with it?

No roads, no schools, no medical care, so safe food or water, no electricity or gasoline or natural gas - no banking system, no copywrite or trademark protections, no consumer safety, so goods for purchase that rely on any of the above...

I mean if someone says with a straight face they want the government out of their healthcare then let them opt out and bar them from accessing any medical practitioner or hospital or pharmacy or over the counter drugs or anything of the sort. All of that is at some point tax-payer supported, regulated, tested for safety etc.

We can talk until we are blue in the face but sometimes you just have to walk away and let a petulant toddler beat their head on the floor of the grocery store until they realize being abandoned to fend for themselves isn't what they actually wanted.

If Sally Sue down the street wants government out of her life then why can't we just shut down the electric and gas and water service at her house. Let her voluntarily hand over anything in her house that is safe because of government regulation. Station the cops at the end of her driveway for a few days to keep her off the public roads, freeze her credit cards and bank accounts yadda yadda yadda.

Yes I know it's ridiculous but it's what they say they want.....

The solution to ignorance is knowledge, not isolation.
The best knowledge comes from setting a good example, not ridicule and division.

My Wife & I moved from Big Blue Northern City to the rural RED South in 2006.
We won't be moving back.

We have successfully convinced many more life long Republicans to vote FOR the Democrat
than we ever did up North,
and our LIBERAL vote weighs much more here.

The South is beautiful belongs to ALL of us.
What a shame to just give it away.

Yes! That is exactly what will help. It gets so tiresome hearing about how we, sane people, should just move out of areas where the crazies are. Hello? What if I LIKE where I live? Climate, job, family, friends, activities, whatever... why should I give up the good things about where I live because dumbfucks live here too?

It might be a thought to have liberals move into the gerrymandered districts, if possible. That moron in North Dakota trying to create a white town might be onto something. We could move a bunch of Democrats into a gerrymandered district!

... and... also... WOOOOAH the floodgate would be open for all sort of KERAAAZY ideas about how tax is spent on individdles.

Nice idea. You're not the first to have it, I played around with it, but let it rip conceptually and it goes nuts in short order.

I totally agree in principle I just can't see any practical way of making it work.

I mean just let them opt out and then cut them off completely. Most of them say "oops" in 1 hr of their phones and internet going dead.... The rest would say "ooops" within a day of not having any running water, electric or access to their own money or the roads....

A few out in Wyoming that pretty much live off the grid would be fine but for the most part we'd stop seeing people running around with tea bags on their heads.....

it's just a matter of them having their cake and eating it, too. They usually say "if I pay taxes, why should I not use (insert government program)?" They obviously don't realize that they are making the case for why government is necessary.

it's simply not feasible.

How would you keep them from driving on the roads? Would you turn their children away from the public schools? Would you have hospital emergency rooms refuse to treat them? How would you identify them at the cash register so they couldn't buy a bottle of aspirin?

The better way, although again not possible, would be to shut down Fox news, get Limbaugh and every other right-wing idiot off the air. Install televisions and radios tuned only to liberal/left wing outlets.

Again, satisfying to imagine, but won't happen. We can only hope that enough of them will come to understand that the government is helpful, despite its many flaws.

The real problem is that independent thinking is just not taught in very many schools, certainly not before college level, if even then. Many churches also discourage any kind of independent thinking, some more so than others. Most people never read a book of any kind after they're done with school, so they are never exposed to any real ideas. And so on.

I know a young man, probably about 22, who apparently gets most of his information about the world from You Tube. He doesn't quite get it that he can't necessarily trust what he sees there. I'm trying to educate him, but it may be hopeless. I doubt he reads. Maybe I can turn him on to some other electronic sources of information that are just a little more reliable than You Tube. Sigh.

but when it came to say, the public library, they aren't eligible for a card. They could pay for the utilities but have their taxes adjusted to take out schools, thus they could use a private system for education.

They can go the the ER but they wind up with a bill, of course. If they can pay it fine, if not, they owe it with no relief.

They don't pay into Medicare, etc. and aren't eligible for the program either.
