I'm wondering what happens when they can't agree and it keeps going on and on... The Tea Party is really starting to dig their heals in. You know they will try to ramrod one of their own into Boehner's position. Will the center stand firm to them?
I'm guessing a smart DUer will have the answer to my question in three minutes or less.

(2,529 posts)And Lamar Smith's congressional district. Specifically in Boerne, TX., 87% Republican by Demographic. I was dismayed by the number of teabaggers that showed up at the Veteran's Plaza in solidarity for the Tea Party Express national tour a few years ago. But, we also had quite a showing during the demonstration against the Iraq War. The demonstrators for that one were noticeably younger. It gives me hope that future generations of Texans in the more conservative areas of the state will trend liberal and hopefully upset the teabagger apple cart.

(36,745 posts)There are enough Dems and possibly enough renegade Rethugs to form a coalitional majority. If the Rethug party disintegrates, I suspect a "unity" coalition will form.

(5,901 posts)If Republicans split on Boehner, Pelosi could be elected Speaker with 100% of Dem votes, so don't look for that to happen.

(879 posts)but I just looked it up and you need a majority of voting members. So, they would just keep re-voting until someone wins a majority.
So, it would just be a circus. Of course, the next election for Speaker is when the next Congress is sworn in, and if Boehner does do something to defuse this soon, he might be House Minority Leader after that.

(42,704 posts)To be elected Speaker, one has to have an absolute majority of the members voting. So unless repubs voted for Pelosi, and that's never happening, there will be repeated votes until a repub has a majority (not a plurality).
