It won't be easy.
It will cost us a lot of money and personal sacrifice.
But if Democracy is to survive in this country we must stop the purchasing of our candidates. We must undo the gerrymandering that has allowed such whackjobs to get into power.
The only way to do that is take the house. If we have to knock on every door in the country, if we have to give up a little money that was earmarked for something else. If we have to come out of every political closet and discuss openly what is happening in our country to anyone willing to have a conversation, then we must do it.
Senator Cruz could be the next President. A handful of Billionaires almost bought us President Romney. They've learned a few tricks since then. They've bought a little more media since then. Palin has been sitting on a sizable political funding machine that has been running nonstop since she ran for veep. She loves herself some Ted Cruz and in if he is running, she will march her army out in lockstep behind him. (or, if you prefer, you can picture the Wicked Witch calling out her flying monkeys) She didn't do this for Romney. And now tThe Supreme Court is deciding if political money is free speech and we might just see an end to campaign finance reform.
We need to take the house. We need to do it in 2014.
It is the only way to save Democracy.

(69,014 posts)Gerrymandering is done in-state.
AND THAT IS OUR OWN FUCKING FAULT FOR GETTING SO DAMNED SELF-RIGHTEOUS AND SITTING OUT 2010. WE ARE A MAJORITY. WHEN WE GET OFF OUR ASSES AND VOTE, THEY ARE NOTHING.
We are never going to get a perfect president. But if we have learned anything from this mess, PLEASE let it be that the two parties are NOT the same and voting DOES make a difference. Anyone who tells you different is your enemy.

(75,480 posts)if we run some progressive Independents who promise to caucus with the Democrats in very red gerrymandered districts. I live in a pretty conservative area and talking to the Republicans on occasion, I find many are really disgusted with the House shenanigans. They aren't ready to jump to the Democrats but would vote for a promising independent.
