(83,773 posts)And here is but one of the reasons that they support Obama/Biden...
DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania President Barack Obama says the deaths of 19 firefighters who died battling an Arizona wildfire are a heartbreaking reminder that emergency personnel put their lives on the line every day while rushing toward danger.
snip
He said, quote, "We are heartbroken about what happened."
Obama says his administration is prepared to help Arizona investigate how the deaths happened. He predicted the incident will force government leaders to answer broader questions about how they handle increasingly destructive and deadly wildfires.
The firefighters, members of an elite crew fighting a forest fire northwest of Phoenix, were overtaken Sunday by a fast-moving blazed fueled by hot winds. Some 200 homes also were destroyed.

Thank you Cha.

(297,257 posts)There really did need to be a post here about how valuble our Firefighters/First Responders are and how much the Obama/Biden Admin Appreciates them!.. Mahalo!
That was such an incredibly sad tragedy for our FireFighers.
Joe Biden Salutes 19 Fallen Arizona Firefighters At Memorial
PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. Vice President Joe Biden says the 19 Arizona firefighters killed in a wildfire were men of "uncommon valor" who rushed to save a town and gave their lives in the process.
Biden called the members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots who died June 30 some of the most disciplined, tenacious and physically fit men in the world. He added, "Firefighting is not what they did. It was who they were."
The vice president made the remarks Tuesday at a memorial for the firefighters held in a packed 6,000-seat arena in Prescott Valley, Ariz. Thousands of firefighters and law enforcement officers from across the nation attended, along with the men's families, Gov. Jan Brewer, and members of the state's congressional delegation.
Biden praised the firefighters' families for supporting what he called ordinary Americans doing extraordinary things despite the inherent dangers of their jobs.

(32,062 posts)all my friends' dads too. We were in a rural area - manufacturing and farming. It wasn't fancy but at least folks had jobs and could support their families. Even my grandma worked in a knitting factory. She and my grandfather traveled around the country in their camper when they got older

(813 posts)I grew up next door to a fire station.
Over my childhood years, I got to know the firefighters quite well.
The area I lived in was pretty disadvantaged, and the firefighters often fed local kids (firefighters can COOK, believe it!).
Those men (back then it was all-male) were some of the most courageous, honourable men I ever met.
You will never get me to say anything bad about a firefighter, nor will I tolerate someone doing so in my presence.
