from WPTV:
Demonstrators removed the barricades Sunday at the rally, tossing them into a pile nearby. After the speeches, the crowd wandered down to the nearby Lincoln Memorial and removed its barriers as well. When some officers tried to put them back up, protesters took them from the officers' hands and carried them away from the memorial.
"You look around though and you see these barricades and you have to ask yourself, is this any way that a commander in chief would show his respect, his gratitude to our military? This is a matter of shutdown priorities," Palin said.
. . . what about showing respect for the law and law officers?

(85,996 posts). . .and there's the fact that most Americans have already seen through the republican-led farce.
Let's be straight about this. These folks don't deserve any more impunity from the law than any other protesters. Countless sympathetic figures have placed themselves subject to arrest in their protests in D.C. without the police 'losing their cool'.
It's about time they stopped catering to the right-wing pov and start worrying about and responding to the expectations of folks like you and me.

I get your point though.

We should realize our own political power and influence and not shy away from holding them accountable for their actions.

Bringing Sarah Palin & a Confederate flag to DC will certainly reassure Americans who were afraid the GOP might be a little self-destructive8:52 AM - 13 Oct 2013

Waving a Confederate flag at the home of a black family isn't okay anywhere. It's a threat of violence.

I can't imagine any other political group getting as much leeway in their protests. Not ONE that I've attended would tolerate us snatching barriers out of the police officers' hands.
This is what they want. Impunity.

(46,436 posts)and I wish things were different, but with the media largely in the Right's pockets, I can see how arrests of these people could be turned against us.
I still don't think these antics are doing them any favors.

(85,996 posts)The majority of Americans are already agreeing that the closures are the fault of republicans. A majority of Americans already fault republicans on the sequester, the shutdown, and the debt-limit hostage-taking.
When do we get to assume that inviolable position of superior outrage that everyone has assumed is the dominion of the right-wing? Here's the nation agreeing with us and we're still worrying about how wingers might react.
What about leaving to them to worry about how YOU or I might react or feel? It's high time we demanded that the media and everyone else respond to OUR outrage.
