Yup...that's it.
I'm not linking to it, as I don't want to give them hits, but the Freepers are going crazy and salivating at its release tonight.
Basically, Andy found an old poster for a play about Saul Alinsky and community organizing. And among the 15 or so panelists is listed a "Sen. Baraka Obama."
Yes, our president was working so closely with these radicals, so hand-in-hand with them, that they couldn't even spell his name right!
Then, of course, there's a bunch of red-baiting over the rest of the panelists.
For instance, Studs Terkel, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author, historian, radio host and Chicago legend is summarized by Andy as:
"Studs Terkel: A sponsor of the Scientific and Cultural Conference for World Peace in 1949, which was arranged by a Communist Party USA front organization known as the National Council of the Arts, Sciences, and Professions."
Not exactly an accurate summary of the man's 96 years of life - reaching back to 1949 for a half-assed attempt at tying him to communism.
So, that's it. folks. That's the shocking truth of Breitbart's "The Vetting: Part one."
This is all they have.
"Derpty derp Alinksy derpty derp radical! Show us yer birf certificate!"
We've heard it it all before. It didn't play in 2008 and it won't play now.
Bob Dylan perfectly described these rightwing nuts up in 1963
In the end, Breitbart's final bombshell was, like everything else he did, a bunch of over-hyped nothing.

The format for all of those songs (and there are a big load of them) is called Talking Blues. It was originated by Woodie Guthrie, I believe, and back in his day he had titles like Talkin' Dust Bowl Blues and others to go along with his favorite themes, such as union organizing and the like. But I believe it was Dylan who resurrected the format during "our" generation. After Dylan, the talking blues flourished amongst a host of young fledgling folk singers, and on a myriad of topics.
One night during my years in high school, after a humiliating episode of harassment at the hands of the local pigs (I was minding my own business and walking home with my guitar in its' case; but you have to remember that I grew up living behind the 'orange curtain' in Orange County, CA [the home of The John Birch Society]. The time was the mid '60's, and I was just a kid walking home on the street at night with my guitar inside its' case. I didn't look at all like a gangsta, and there was no reason for the pig to fantasize that I was packing a machine gun inside the case).
Anyway, after I finally arrived home and began to think about the unpleasant exchange that had happened to me, I wrote down my own talking blues. I called it Talkin' Protection Society Blues.
I was walkin' on home late the other night
When a pig pulls me over and blinds me with his light
He said, "Where ya goin', and what's your legal name
And while were at it, I wanna play the ID game".
I said I'm headed on down the road a ways
to the place where I sleep and usually stay.
But when you get right down to the gist of the thing
It's none of your business where I'm goin' or where I've been.
He said, "We're not trying to harass ya' son
It's just a routine check that we make for fun
And it's really no reason to get bothered or upset
It's just one of the benefits that all our people get".
He was tellin' me about how it was all for my protection
Said, "It's all a part of belonging to the Great Society"
Well he checked my body for guns and clubs
Then he radio'd the station for my record and mug
And that was all over, he sent me on my way
'cause he couldn't find a reason to make me have to stay
I think he wanted me to thank him.
That is for not shooting me in the back and then sayin' his gun accidentally went off.
He musta thought he was James M. Bova, I was Leonard Deadwyler, and this was LA in '66*
Well I sure am great-full to this society
For protection from things that might harm me
But there's just one thing that's a got me down
and that's who's gonna protect me from all the pigs that's a hanging 'round.
I think I'm gonna have to write a letter to the Bird Man
Either that, or buy me a mail order .38.

(9,213 posts)I could imagine a young Dylan singing it to his Talkin blues.

(1,484 posts)is because it was never released by Dylan's label, Colombia (not hard to guess why). It was on a boot leg tape (or else a crudely pressed "black label" LP record) of unreleased Dylan material that emerged sometime early in his career. Another title from that same compilation was "Percy's Song" (or "Turn Turn Again To The Rain And The Wind" which was deeply felt by me, and therefore a highly sought after prize that I was never able to obtain.
These "unauthorized" songs were something that only certain "underground" FM radio stations of the time had access to, and regrettably for me, most of them broadcast their signals on the East Coast, which was where Dylan was living at the time.
It looks like A.H. (in the original post) owns a copy of the original black label record that was pressed from the studio tape of Dylan's that "disappeared" from the vaults at Columbia. Hang on to it A.H., because it is probably worth a lot of money! BTW: I believe that this material was from one of the early recording sessions that Dylan recorded for his first release on Columbia, c. 1962.

(2,514 posts)understand about not being in the right geography, to have access to that stuff.... I grew up in southern Idaho, at that time it had the highest per capita "bircher" numbers in the United states.. i remeber their domination in the local press.. as well as fringe candidates ( we did however have senator Frank Church)... so the John Birch Socioty theme caught my attention..
another aspect of a semi rural market is that Dylan had some stuff that did well in teh top 40 days most of it you had to buy the albums... it was either the local top 40.. or a blaster mega station KOMA out of OK City was teh one that we listened too..
thanks for the trip through memory lane..

(14,093 posts)Just a misspelled poster indicating he was invited.
And then a bunch of dumb speculation by Andy, like:
Are we expected to believe that Baraka Obama was a countervailing voice of reason on a panel of radicals?
That's the best Breitbart could come up with.
It's really quite sad.
