Here's an apt aphorism from Robert Fripp:
When a musician makes a mistake the musician pays.
When Management makes a mistake the musician pays.
When The Record Company makes a mistake the musician pays.

(22,271 posts)This happened to the early Blues artists. Bonnie Raitt (goddess love her) started a retirement community for victims of industry abuse of this kind and has raised millions of dollars for it after she found out that one of her idols, Sippy Wallace, was virtually broke. This also happened to many of the Motown artists as well.
So many of these artists signed basically slave-labor contracts when they were young, had no representation and didn't know what they were signing. Some have gone back and sued and won (Led Zeppelin) but many just didn't/don't have the resources to go up against the industry giants.
Here's an instant fix: Some modern-day artists could record some of these songs and donate ALL royalties to them.

(9,704 posts)I used to know her. She lived in a small, cheesy, one-bedroom apartment in the Bay Area. She didn't get any royalties for her acting or singing film work. She used all her money to sue David Geffin. She lost to his top-notch lawyers and then she was blackballed from Hollywood. She could never get a job again. It was really sad. People in the Bay Area still recognized her and would come up all the time telling her how talented she was and asking for autographs. She was always so gracious. It was heartbreaking. She was in her early 30's then and all used up.

(11,689 posts)Ken Baker fills us in on the latest gossip revolving around Hollywood richest teens living situations including Taylor Lautner, Justin Bieber, and Miley Cyrus.
Ken reports, Because of the economy alot of people are living with their parents longer then they use to, and this even includes multi-millionaire teen superstars. Check this out, 19 year old Taylor Lautner recently admitted to living with his parents, and even sleeps in the same bedroom since he was 11 years old!
Also 17 year old Justin Bieber, who is worth over 100 million dollars, still lives with his mom. However not everyone is living with their parents. For example, 18 year old Miley Cyrus, who is worth 50 million dollars, was able to rub some coins together enough to get her own place.
