PLEASE folks, that was NOT a squad of 'riot police.' It was MURRAY from The Odd Couple.

THIS is what a squad of RIOT POLICE looks like, and this is generally what LEFT WING PROTESTS are greeted with:

THIS is not a squad of riot police. This is a golden 'photo op' for the Tea Party who, apparently, must be treated with kid gloves at all times. This is a gang of Capitol Hill community police they managed to round up on short notice, half of whom are female, most of whom are wearing bike helmets, and none of whom are wearing body armor or carrying shields or riot weapons.

So, let's stop feeding the egos of a handful of teabaggers by perpetuating the myth that they stared down the Washington riot police.

feel sorry for cops, especially not when they're mounties, but these teabaggers were actually menacing. Just hideously vile people.

If you're peacefully protesting ECONOMIC INEQUALITY: you can expect to get pepper sprayed.

If you're VIOLENTLY shoving Capitol Hill Police around in the name of Right Wing Nihilism: You can expect the police to just give up and leave.

Seems that you are implying that because, among other reasons, that if half the riot-squad is female, a riot-squad it cannot be.

What gives?

You can just imagine the dialogue.

"Please fellas, not so loud when you're throwing the fences around and vandalizing the property. The Obama girls are trying to do their homework..."

those are the police charged with protecting the Congress!

And you're right - if things had gone a little farther - the crowd would have been beating on the police, not the other way around!

Here's what happened: A group of angry thugs tore up the fencing around the WWII Monument, carried it to the White House, and smashed it up against the White House fence, and proceeded to make a noisy protest. Since these are TeaHadist, 2nd Amendment lunatics it's a fair assumption to assume some of them are armed, and MOST of them have a visceral, violent hatred of President Obama.

So, the Capitol Hill Police round up a few bike cops, and get them to stand between the protesters and the White House. The protesters shout things at the police and shove a few of them around (there's actually video of big beefy protesters shoving them around). So, the police give up and leave, to the cheers of the protest crowd.

This means one of two things:

1. THAT was the best the Capitol Hill Police could do! Meaning, GOD HELP US if an angry mob, or a well coordinated group of terrorists decided to STORM THE WHITE HOUSE. Because the next and only line of defense would have been a half dozen Secret Service guys coming out and shooting to kill. Frankly, it would have been nice to have something IN BETWEEN what we see here (a few lightly armed community police that give up when threatened), and Secret Service Agents shooting to kill, wouldn't it?

Or,

2. That they HAD a squad of serious riot police (and possibly some troops) stashed someplace, but decided not to deploy them because it would make for really bad publicity. So, without wanting to go straight to the REAL riot squad, they quickly rounded up a few Capitol Hill Police.

I'm hoping it's the SECOND scenario. If it's the first, that's pretty scary to think about.
