get some concessions out of the Dems and the President. They are making it look like they still hold some cards here - but if the Dems and the President stand firm here and don't make any additional concessions - I'm thinking that they have to cave or it will be their demise.

(23,955 posts)If a majority of the house repugs were interested in having a proper federal government, responsible fiscal policies, and mature handling of the economic situation, you'd be correct. But they aren't. Their expressed goals are to inhibit the function of the federal government and consistently obstruct President Obama's agenda.
By shutting down the government and threatening default (let alone actually defaulting) they are actually accomplishing their objectives, short sighted as they may be.
