IMO, this whole fiasco has been a long con to impeach Obama

Gohmert isn't even the first person to mention the dilemma they're going to trap Obama in, though AFAIK he's the first elected pol to.

Once the debt ceiling is reached, the executive has mandatory payments which must be made. Failure to pay them is illegal. But further borrowing to make those payments is also illegal. Whichever course Obama takes, the House will move (probably successfully) to impeach, and that's been the point this whole time.

The Senate will dutifully ignore whatever articles the House presents, possibly with a fig leaf of a trial.

They didn't, however, because they knew that the Senate would never vote to convict.

As such, it's hard to believe that impeachment was their goal. Problem is, nobody knows what their goals are, and that's because they don't know, themselves. They are in disarray, and that makes them quite dangerous and unpredictable.

Doing it last January would have made it too long before the midterms.

If you're right, I expect their impeachment theater to do as much damage to Obama as it did to Clinton, i.e. none.

Far more likely, I think, is the theory that they have no idea what they want. They are rewarded for obstruction, plain and simple, and obstruction is all they know how to do at this point.

Someone just a few minutes ago expressed that very same idea. And I have to agree - it makes as much sense as anything else!

This would further kill the repukes in the polls. In fact, I think it would be the thing to give the house back to the Dems.

Fifty percent of the USA is public land. How much oil is that? The Kochs want all the minerals, etc....

Poor deluded Caribou Barbie probably wants to rule Alaska and own a big chunk of it too.

I mean, they would love to impeach Obama, but those are feelings, not plans. And as was just demonstrated again this morning, they have no plan, they just want things.
