(38,313 posts)I'm a radical environmentalist and socialist.
I'm pretty much a Luddite too. I boycott most everything: Television, Microsoft, Apple, new cars, smart phones... most of "consumer" society in fact. My favorite thing is finding cool stuff in the trash and making it useful again. I drive a thirty year old car with a salvage title. My old computers run Linux. I eat very little meat, and when I do it's mostly to be polite. I think we ought to ban fossil fuels. All cities ought to be walkable with good public transportation so that most people don't need or desire automobiles.
I think the uber-wealthy ought to be taxed out of existence. Wealthy is okay, but having the power to buy the political system is not.
Everyone ought to have safe comfortable shelter, good food, appropriate medical care, a fair and just legal system, and as much free education as they are willing and able to absorb for the simple reason we are all human beings. Government work and welfare ought to compete directly with the crappy, low paying corporate jobs. Everyone ought to have the ability to walk away from a horrible job without fearing homelessness, hunger, or lack of medical care.

(10,893 posts)I thought the results looked a little fishy, myself. Maybe I'm living in a bubble, but at least to me, it really seems like there are way more than only 10% of the populace who would be classified as "bleeding hearts". In most polls out there, many Americans do actually favor more egalitarianism when it comes to fiscal policies. I would have a hard time figuring out why most people wouldn't want to make college more affordable, for instance.
