(5,049 posts)They are completely insane. It is their dereliction of duty that is destroying the country. The President can't bring the bills before congress or vote on them he can only sign them into law. if there's an impeachment its the Baggers that should be walking the plank.

(23,761 posts)if he does that, then they will go for impeachment on some fucked up ground or another.

(276 posts)Yoho is my congress critter and I am dreaming of a recall with an independent challenger because a lot of repubs in the district would probably not vote for a dem but would vote for an independent. In fact a lot of the republicans I worked with have become independents since the advent in Florida of Governor Voldemort. Anyone know how to do this? Do you need a petition? Is it possible on a federal level?
enlightenment
(8,830 posts)It's one of those murky areas of Constitutional law. There is nothing specific that forbids the recall of federal officials - but it has never been done.
Presumably, it would operate the same way recall works in the states that allow it for state officials (my state, Nevada, allows for this process) - via petition and then a special ballot issue.
You might find this opinion interesting (I did!):

(1,235 posts)but there are measures that can be taken. Per Article 1, Section 5 of the Constitution, a two-thirds majority in the house can expel any member. This, naturally, is very seldom used. 3 of the 5 representatives ever expelled were for joining the Confederates. It's a pretty high bar to reach for, but maybe not completely out of reach depending on what the teabaggers do to the nation and their party.
More plausible is censure. This only requires a straight majority, and it's not entirely implausible that 17 moderate republicans might be drummed up to take the extreme-right-bat-shit-crazies to task for their bullshit games of chicken. Censure requires the offending party to give up any committee chairs they may hold, curbing a lot of their influence, and - as a nice bonus - comes with a scathing, very public, verbal condemnation on the House floor. Might be a helluva nice gift to give to any challengers in their districts come next year's elections.

(26,044 posts)For a bill to be voted on in the Senate without days of procedural delays (in other words, too late to help), it has to come from the House first. The only alternative would be to waive the Senate rules, which requires UNANIMOUS consent
and Cruz (of course) has already vowed to block such a move.
Basically, we're screwed.

"It boils down to conscience protections that basically become compromised on the first of January, and that's bothersome to a lot of people," Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ariz.) said.
"It concerns me but it concerns a lot of people in our conference that a provision of the Affordable Care Act goes into effect and that is a violation of the conscious beliefs of a lot of members of our party."

(37,457 posts)WASHINGTON On the brink of a historic default, House Republicans on Tuesday abruptly postponed a vote on their latest proposal to reopen the government and raise the debt limit, as a major credit agency warned that the United states was on the verge of a costly ratings downgrade.
Hard-line conservatives and more pragmatic Republicans were nearing open revolt Tuesday evening, after House Republican leadership rushed out a new bill in the afternoon, forcing a postponement of any vote on the measure. With the latest delay, chances increased that a resolution would not be reached before the Treasury exhausted its borrowing authority on Thursday.
After failing in repeated efforts to bring their troops behind any bill that would end the budget dispute, the House Republican leadership offered a bill Tuesday afternoon that would reopen the government through Dec. 15, extend the governments borrowing authority until Feb. 7 and eliminate government contributions to lawmakers, White House officials and their staffs for their purchases of health insurance on the new insurance exchanges.
Under the new plan, the Treasury Department would be forbidden to use extraordinary measures juggling government accounts to extend its borrowing capabilities.

(45,984 posts)That's Heritage Action. The Heritage Foundation was a right wing think tank that rigged studies to come up with predicable results, like poor people are lazy and don't deserve one thin dime in aid. Heritage Action, its incarnation under the of former Senator Jim DeMint, is a right wing lobbying group out to destroy America until it elects a right wing president who doesn't know what he's doing, which is whatever the Koch brothers tell him to do.

What these fucking republicans are doing at this moment is absolutely maddening. They are actively hoping for an economic collapse the likes which bin laden only dreamed of. These people are not just evil and corrupt, they are part of the worse scum to have set foot on this planet.
Does anyone remember back in 2009 when the repubs voted to rename the democratic party? Imagine if the democrats decided to rename the republican party. Maybe something along the lines of the taliban party which is closer ideologically to the republicans of this decade then ever before. This country and the media is giving a free pass to these mentally unstable criminals we refer to as republicans. In any other part of the world these scum would not have a chance to do the damage they are doing to their country.
