Kudos to Joy Reed for coming up with the best quote of the day to describe the current Republican insanity.

"They started out threatening to shoot hostages, and now they're shooting the GETAWAY DRIVER?"

Best metaphor I've heard yet!

They started out by shutting down the government, and taking the World Economy HOSTAGE by threatening to not raise the Debt Ceiling unless Obamacare is DEFUNDED and REPEALED.

Everyone including Charles Krauthammer said that would be suicidal for the Party, given that we know how that 'strategy' will end. 1. The GOP will TANK in the opinion polls (DONE!), and 2. They'll HAVE to cave in the end, because shooting the hostage would finish the GOP FOR GOOD (CAVE in progress...). DUH!

So, they essentially wandered through a jungle of hatred, nihilism, and Dixiecrat nullificationism, and came upon a TIGER TRAP along the jungle path. Not only did they not AVOID the Tiger Trap, but they claimed it wouldn't hurt them, and to prove it...they did a FREAKING SWAN DIVE head first INTO it! Now they're stuck in the trap, and are desperately trying to find some way to get out that will allow them to keep some scrap of their dignity. (Sort of like PEE WEE HERMAN doing the ass-over-teakettles flip on his bike, and then saying "I MEANT to do that.&quot

They've got the world economy held hostage:

They started out demanding Obamacare be defunded. (Obama: "Not gonna happen.&quot
They moved to demanding it be DELAYED, conveniently until after the 2014 elections. (Obama: "Fuck you.&quot
They moved to demanding the Medical Device Tax be removed. (Obama: "What part of 'FUCK YOU' did you fail to understand?&quot
Then they moved to demanding CONGRESS be put on Obamacare. (Clever, see? This will force the Democrats to admit they don't really like it, and vote against it.)....erp...NO. Actually all the Republicans would vote against losing their Platinum FEHBP healthcare plan, too.

Oh, come on, GIVE US A BREAK! We've got to walk away with this with SOME DIGNITY!
How about that scene from CHEERS, where Michael Richards finally gets Ted Danson to give him a GREEN OLIVE, and says "You think about THIS the next time you shoot your mouth off in some bar!"

Let's at least pass a SYMBOLIC BILL where we take FEHBP away from OUR OWN STAFFERS!

And guess what? THEY CAN'T EVEN DO THAT! That's why Boehner's meeting fell apart today. They were actually attempting to salvage some dignity by screwing their own STAFFERS out of their healthcare plan.
