Check in if you watched the '8' The Prop 8 Play online

The play was pretty much the transcript of Perry v. Schwarzenegger which overturned Prop 8. The play consisted of a verbatim reading of the court case along with interjection from RL commentary of several same-sex families and how this all impacted them. (Families who had been involved with the court case)

First off the casting was amazing. George Clooney and Martin Sheen played lawyers David Boies and Theodore B. Olson where as Kevin Bacon was the lawyer that defended the Prop 8 supporters. Brad Pitt did the role of Judge Vaughn R. Walker. Other actors who took part in this play included Jamie Lee Curtis, Christine Lahti, Jane Lynch, George Takai and John C Reilly (who I thought had done the best playing the imbecile witness used to support the ban of same-sex marriages).

When I first saw it was 2 hours long I didn't think I really wanted to sit in front of my computer and watch this thing. But I had to be sitting there anyways doing some RL work so I had it playing in the background and listening to it from time to time.

I thought it was a very innovated way to get people to see what happened during this case since most of us hadn't read the transcripts. It really put to light how civil rights advocates were using common sense whereas those that opposed it only had fearmongering as the reason to ban same-sex marriages, very very few facts (again, watch the John C Reilly section and George Takei - really showed how lame their defense was and both actors did really well showcasing it).

I was on the edge of my seat listening to this and at one point I was in tears listening to some of the parts done by Jamie Lee Curtis and Christine Lahti, playing the roles of a RL lesbian couple who was a big part of the case. Well done.

I'd love to see this play on Broadway, I think it could be the "Angels in America" for this generation. (although I doubt it wouldn't be done with such a star-studded cast but I'd still go to Broadway and see the play).

think their site said it would be taken on the road to cities across the US, obviously not with this cast
