Moderate Republicans can find a home in the DLC/Democratic party,
righties can move to the Libertarian party,
and the 99% can begin the formation of a New Democratic party.

(14,087 posts)began infiltrating the Democratic party during the Reagan years. Big corporate donors for the DLC are the same group that finances the republican party. Did it not seem apparent to you when Joe Lieberman gave a keynote address at the republican convention?
The DLC has been extremely influential in moving the country so far to the right that we've almost fallen off the earth. They are corporatists. Rahm Emmanuel is their poster child. They are "anti-populist", which means they are NOT in favor of doing things that help the population, but are in favor of helping the corporations. It has worked amazingly well.

(8,556 posts)Granted, 50 years from now the landscape will probably be different. But the current flap over birth control/Rush etc. is a short-term blip and shouldn't be over-emphasized. It's going to hurt them, but probably not in a major way. I remember right before the election a headline on Daily Kos read:
'One week until the Republican party becomes a regional party based in south'
And then two years later we had the midterms and the House went Republican. So reports of the party's impending demise are probably greatly exaggerated.
