About BFPA
Who we are, what we do
Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA) is a no-kill animal rescue organization based in central North Carolina. BFPA has no building, office, or shelter. We are an all-foster network committed to helping dogs and cats in need of homes. Individual donations are our most important source of income as we receive no public funding.
Our purpose is to provide medical assistance, foster homes, and adoption services to previously lost, abandoned, abused, or neglected animals in Wake County, NC and the surrounding counties. Our mission is to educate this disposable society in which we live that every life should be valued and cherished and is directly linked to human responsibility and commitment.
Almost all the animals we rescue require immediate medical attention. BFPA never turns away or euthanizes an animal because of the expense involved in returning them to good health. All our rescued animals are evaluated for temperament, examined by a veterinarian, vaccinated, microchipped (if possible) and sterilized, if age appropriate. Cats and dogs receive monthly flea/tick preventative and dogs also receive monthly heartworm preventative.
The most important ingredients we provide to these animals are loving care and a safe haven -- something most of them have never experienced. These cats and dogs live in volunteer foster homes until we find them a loving permanent home, however long it takes. We match these precious beings to a single, couple or family who understand cats and dogs should be full participating members of the family. Our hope is that these animals never have to experience being unloved again.
Since our beginning, BFPA has rescued and placed over 2,500 cats and dogs into their forever homes.
History
BFPA was created in 1998 by two Raleigh-area women who had volunteered with other established rescues in the Triangle. Their dedication to help homeless dogs and cats has led to an organization that has grown to over 225 volunteers strong.
BFPA received 501(c)(3) status in 1999.

(2,126 posts)I hope that he finds a wonderful foster home with people that help to bring him out of his shell. He needs someone to trust and that is the perfect situation for that to happen.

(13,466 posts)The picture you posted in the Pets Group of that little angel almost had me in tears. Such a precious being.
I so love animals, and so despise those who abuse them.

(948 posts)Was just talking with my sweetie - we are looking for a dog/puppy.
I wanted this one - we were discussing even if this was going to be possible - I live in Ontario...
So happy he found a home - but a little sad too, because we really wanted this little guy.
I would have spared no expense either - this one hit me hard...
Happy for the little guy.

(14,881 posts)they are listed as "critical" on petfinder, meaning they are running out of time. There were 2 cute looking hounds, a lab cross or two, a rottie and a pit.
Please consider taking one of them. The odds of rescuing a young puppy from a distance are much lower than an older puppy or adult. I arranged to have a pup pulled from a Georgia shelter taken to vet, boarded and transported a couple years ago through the petfinders rescue forum. The dog that arrived (a 6-7 month old rhodesian ridgeback boy) wasn't exactly the dog I thought I rescued (a 2-3 month old yellow lab cross girl), but I haven't regretted Lunar for a moment. He is so grateful for his home, so willing and tries so hard to please. He'd clearly been abused, but has overcome all his fears with time and love.
He was 2 days away from death...it's just so hard to imagine gassing this beautiful, healthy, loving and happy little guy...

(4,507 posts)(but) - are you sure that rescues are listed as "critical" with that org - the org says it is no kill.
Is it that they have only so many slots and they work with shelters, so that the shelter can be a kill-shelter, while the org, itself, is no-kill?
If they are "critical" - there could be nothing more wonderful than saving a life -
I intend to start a mission to publicize the story of Daniel the Miracle Dog - he is so beautiful and that they tried to gas him and he lived... it is a story that makes me cry and says everything that is wrong with how we address this issue in this country.

(14,881 posts)he has been rescued by a no-kill shelter. As a yellow lab puppy, he is highly adoptable.
The other dogs there are adults, and less faddish breeds, so less "adoptable" and passed over by many no-kill rescues. Doomed because they aren't little puppies any more.
Fuck, fuck, fuck. I just checked the link. The 6 beautiful dogs that were listed as "critical" are removed from the list.

(4,507 posts)they have not been saved by a no-kill group -
consider looking at one of these sweet souls...
so much love to Moot - but prayers for these dogs at the County Shelter, hoping for a miracle in the last days that they have a chance...

Maybe you COULD be his forever family. Why not contact them? Couldn't hurt to try!

He is rescued, and in what sounds like a great place - but he needs his forever home, still.

(4,507 posts)makes me a little mad that I was taking a self-enforced no-DU day to celebrate a personal event and step away from the madness, and so missed this.
But so happy to see a happy result.
THIS is the kind of stuff we can come together as a community to help bring a little kindness to the World. When we fight each other with pure nastiness and descend into time-wasting nonsense, it reduces the ability of each of us to try to *help* in this world.
A little dog named Moot need someone to give a damn. We give a damn. Or many of us have that within us. It's a reminder to me to not give a damn about some of the silliness here.
My little boy still sometimes reacts in his sleep, thinking, I fear, about his first nine months when he had no home. He is spoiled and spoiled with love, and my prime directive in life (far from only, but my sworn responsibility) is to keep him safe and happy and loved. I wake him up gently and remind him that I'm right here.
