WASHINGTON A Pentagon spokesman says the militarys network will continue to air Rush Limbaughs radio program.
George Little says the American Forces Network offers a wide range of programming to reflect listeners interests and he is unaware of any plans to review that decision.

(82,849 posts)I wonder what it would take for Mr. Little to make a plan to reconsider their decision to carry this vile human being? Does he know any women that he could ask, and whether that vile human being reflects their interests?

(51,457 posts)Ms. Sinkingfeeling, As a service of the Department of Defense, AFN does not advertise on Mr
Limbaugh's program, offer products for sale, or sponsor any of the programs
we relay to our audience.
The American Forces Network does not censor content and we do not seek to
protect our overseas Department of Defense audience from hearing views with
which they may disagree. Our mission is to offer program choices, which
includes both the one-hour versions and three-hour version of various
popular political talk shows.

Thanks for your support of our troops and for your interest in AFN.
Sincerely,

Here's my email....
Dear Sirs:
I concur with VoteVets in demanding you stop playing Rush Limbaugh over the
airwaves. I resent my tax dollars paying for the spewings of a misogynist
to the female troops. How much is it to ask you defend these women in
uniform against being referred to as 'sluts' and 'prostitutes'?
Sincerely,
**************************************************
Apparently the DOD does not value women in the military enough to defend them from Rush.

(47,992 posts)or transferring that problem to others, with the enthusiastic support and emotional and social rewards provided by hate-speakers like RL.
It's a defense mechanism the function of which is to deal with stresses that arise from dissonance, one class of which dissonance arises from the fact that people almost always ascribe the faults/weaknesses/inconsistencies of others to their/others' permanent bad-traits and they ascribe their own faults/weaknesses/inconsistencies to temporary situational features that have nothing to do with themselves intrinsically.
Since the truth is, by definition, inevitable, the truth about one's own faults/weaknesses/inconsistencies never disappears just because we lie to ourselves about that stuff. These truths create stress/tension/insecurity (because a more coherent self-concept is necessary to survival), so they must be dealt with somehow. One of the most primitive ways of relieving the stress, temporarily, is to find a scapegoat, one that is shared by as many others as possible is an especially rewarding/reinforcing scapegoat. Corporate fascist-media uses dynamics like this to build audiences (listeners, viewers, readers, e-clicks).

(8,545 posts)To Whom It May Concern:
When Rush Limbaugh said Fluke should make a video of herself having sex and post it online for him and his followers to view, Rush was verbally sexually harrassing Fluke.
The ONLY way to show that you have zero tolerance for sexual harassment is to drop Rush Limbaugh.
Thank you in advance for letting a potential sexual harasser know there are negative consequences for verbal harassment. And thank you in advance for preventing people from being harassed.
Leading by example is the highest form of leadership.

(5,198 posts)I think the DOD cannot back down right away, they have to appear tough and all. But I don't think anyone is going to back down this time, and the pressure is on from female vets
The embarrassing thing to me is--that this ignorant and insulting radio show is being broadcast overseas, so many people hear this trash and associate it with Americans. So the whole world gets to hear one of the worst examples of an American, and I am sure he inspires hatred of us. My point is that --one would think--that someone inciting hatred (and ultimately violence) would be a --security risk-- right?
Rush and other hate radio personalities were enabled under Bush administration because their sick agenda used these broadcasts, along with fundamentalist and ignorant personalities, to encourage blind allegiance to the neocon Republican party. Unraveling this abuse of the airwaves is a vital step to a truthful and representative media. This may very well open the door to demand the FCC return the Fairness Doctrine.
