(27,445 posts)9 pts is a lot. Can he really be that popular in MA?

(9,623 posts)women will think twice about voting for Brown....Didn't he vote for the Blunt bill????
WI_DEM
(33,497 posts)after two years of being a dependable GOP vote on most issues, Brown is suddenly being more 'independent' but that will reverse again after the election if he wins. I hope the people of MA see thru it. Part of the problem is he is getting almost 30% of the Democratic vote in this most recent poll.

However, I live in MA and Brown seems just moderate enough to fool a lot of people around here.

(4,847 posts)she knows her stuff about the banks, about accountability and regulation. I can see why certain people wouldn't want her in; but, the people who she's going to represent-those 99%ers-I don't understand.

(28,581 posts)Ms Warren needs to start running some ads showcasing his votes and comments that are out of the mainstream thinking here in MA and more in line with the RW Tea Party types.

6 polls have been conducted since December. Brown leads in 4 of them. This includes the last 3 where his lead has ranged from 5-9 points. Based on polling it is clear that Warren is behind. I just don't understand this. However, Massachusetts has been a difficult place for women to win state-wide office.
aaaaaa5a
(4,667 posts)I believe that no woman in the history of the state has ever won statewide office in Massachusetts.
When Romney won in 2002 he defeated a woman.
Then, in this very blue/liberal state, another woman lost statewide office for TED KENNEDY'S OLD SEAT!
And now just under 2 years later, this is the second poll that shows Obama with a roughly 20 point lead in his race, while a candidate like Elizabeth Warren trails by double digits IN THE SAME POLL!
Yes... I know what you are going to say. The two women candidates (2002, 2010) who the Democrats nominated simply weren't that good. Well, maybe so. But then how do you explain Elizabeth Warren? No reasonable person can provide an explanation as to how she is now a double digit underdog in the state of Massachusetts.
I guess she is just "another bad candidate too, who just happens to be a woman." Oh.. and by the way.. my best friend is black.

(7,776 posts)to Warrens campaign... "TED KENNEDY'S OLD SEAT!".
Back during the Brown/Coakley Senate race, I had to wince anytime some Democratic/Liberal blogger, pundit, analyst, DU'er, etc emphasized that it was "Ted Kennedy's seat... that it would be sacrilegious if a Republican won "Ted Kennedy's seat", etc.
The fact is... it never was in any way shape or form "Ted Kennedy's seat"; it was the Senate seat
designated for the electorate and citizens of Massachusetts.
Calling the vacancy, or referring to it as "Ted Kennedy's' seat" was/is arrogant and inaccurate.
There's no telling how much the voter backlash and response cost Coakley the election, but, it had to have some impact.
It would be a big mistake to take up that battle cry again.

(4,667 posts)For some of us it will always be Ted Kennedy's seat. But I don't live in Massachusetts. Just like to me, the Senate seat from South Carolina will always be Strom Thurmond's seat.
Still, your point is well taken. We have to remember that 99% of the public are not political junkies. I can see how a Massachusetts citizen could take offense to any political post being referred to as "Kennedy's Seat."
I won't use it again. I just hope you can see where I am coming from.
Good luck in Massachusetts. We desperately need a Warren win in November.
BTW... What do you think of the theory of women having trouble winning state wide office? Do you find it odd that in a state touted for its progressive thinking, that no woman has ever been elected Governor or Senator? This type of information is usually reserved for deep south states like Mississippi, not Massachusetts.

The election is 6 months out. A lot can happen then but she needs a good ground game to win this thing. She's my favorite candidate this year.

(2,506 posts)Sadly former gov King is announcing tonight. Friend is running for Pingree house seat if she announces ..had conversation with her and she told him she won't run if King gets in. Sadly King and Dem nominee will split votes AGAIN and the Teabagger loonies could take the seat
aaaaaa5a
(4,667 posts)If that is the case, we will be okay. Having another Bernie Sanders in the Senate could be a good thing. My understanding is that King endorsed Obama in 2008.

(6,336 posts)But don't count on MA automatically going for her.
Perhaps these polls should be seen as a wake up call for the voters of MA, who elected Brown in the first place. Every seat in every district counts. Don't think because Obama is on the ticket that we can sit this one out.
My senator's re-election seems pretty safe but I'm not counting anything out.

(11,468 posts)To agree with Obama and the dems on a few things. Some people don't follow like we do all the time so if they see an ad by him showing he is believing ok stuff they think he's doing ok.
Warren needs to get the word out about how far right he went the second he was elected.

(4,847 posts)Ms. warren could run circles around brown, especially in economics. She's someone the whole country needs right now. I've seen her interviewed more than once about the banking bailout and regulation. SHE'S WHAT WE NEED NOW!!!
Are the people in mass. that clueless? Our economy is in the shitter and they want to re-elect brown who has done very little or nothing for those who are going down.
I think many people have either gotten lazy about actually looking at information or they think they're voting for the high school student council.
