Lesus Christ: Vatican Misspells 'Jesus' on Papal Medals

http://www.spiegel.de/international/zeitgeist/vatican-recalls-papal-medals-mispelling-jesus-as-lesus-a-927321.html

So much for papal infallibility. Embarrassed Vatican officials are recalling 6,000 commemorative medallions made in honor of Pope Francis after misspelling "Jesus" as "Lesus."

Lesus Christ: Vatican Misspells 'Jesus' on Papal Medals
October 11, 2013 – 11:42 AM

They say that God is in the details, but what about Jesus? The Vatican has had to recall 6,000 commemorative medals bearing the name "Lesus" where "Jesus" should have been.

The gold, silver and bronze medals were made by the Italian State Mint to commemorate the beginning of Pope Francis's papacy.

The medallions, which went on sale Tuesday, depict Pope Francis and a Latin phrase that he has said inspired him as a young man to pursue a life in the church.

In Latin, the phrase should have read: "Vidit ergo Jesus publicanum et quia miserando antque eligendo vidit, ait illi sequere me" -- or "Jesus therefore sees the tax collector, and since he sees by having mercy and by choosing, he says to him, follow me."

Believe it or not, I actually read articles from Spiegel daily.

Plus I've been on on vacation in Georgia for the last nine days.

There is a link at the top right of the DU page. Just typing "Lesus" gives the following. https://www.google.com/search?q=Lesus&sitesearch=democraticunderground.com . If you do not want to use Google then the syntax "Lesus site:democraticunderground.com" also works in Bing and duckduckgo although the latter and Yahoo search for "Lexus"

The fact that Spiegel is quoting old news is no reason for you to do so. All news sources recycle stories.

What you have done, unintentionally is to up your post count by quoting old news. If you have to re-open a news item then link to prior postings by other members.

hey, let me play internet police for a second :

it is a fact of life that people make mistakes and post old stuff. it is considered poor form to bash major contributors to various sites with inane complaints and conspiracies that they are doing it 'to up their post count'... the best thing for you to do should encounter a thread with old info in it is to pass it by instead of playing the ass and making a jerk of yourself.

because this was laziness and an unwillingness to credit other members of this board.

Admin has put a site search link at the top of the page, please do them the courtesy of using it and avoiding credit to other board members.

Also you cannot be bothered to actually read my post where I made no implication that it was a deliberate attempt to increase post count, just that the post count was increased at the expense of other DUers because of an unwillingness to do a simple site search.

I had not read this story and thus found it interesting and newsworthy. It is not as though it harms anyone to see it reposted as a general discussion topic at DU. Not to mention the fact that almost EVERY major story posted here gets reposted at least once if not twenty times. Who cares? I sure don't.

As for accusing people of simply trying to rack up more post counts by linking to news that is past your due date, I don't even know what to say. I guess we should all run our future posts past you before we dare try to run up our post counts again like the stupid trolls we all are.

Sometimes DU sucks.

Posting news stories? Wow. You do deserve credit. Maybe you could ask the reporters to pay you a portion of their salaries as well. Or just sue Skinner like Righthaven did.

If I feel like reposting this story again to up my post count, I will be sure to credit you. In fact I will always credit you from now on when I post a story. So far I have upped my post count by three on this thread alone!!

Intaglio (2013) posted previously on this topic. Intaglio deserves credit. The rest of us should just STFU. We are just cutting and pasting old news.

NO ONE in all that time has ever credited another DUer for "scooping" a story by cutting and pasting it here first. What hogwash.

Lesus Christ on a breadstick.

Maybe you should credit the individual who made your Darwin Award avatar. It certainly is not original to you. But whatever...

Once again, thanks for helping me inflate my post count. Because that is certainly what I am all about.

I have even specifically denied that I am accusing anyone of plagiarism.

I have said very clearly that other members do need to be credited for trying to bring stories to the attention of DU.

I have done so in other threads and it is not a difficult task.

I suggest you take some of your excuses for laziness and post them in other sites. I will not put you on ignore but I will not reply to any more of your temper tantrums in this thread.

If someone is reposting original content then I can see how that's an issue of plagiarism, but if we're talking about multiple threads about the same news story as - is - the - case - in - this - thread, then what's the big deal?

How petty and small does a person have to worry about who gets "credit" for linking to an off-site story?

I simply can't imagine a grown-up getting worked up over this.

I have observed that it is, at best, impolite to ignore other DUers and that, at worst, it is laziness. I have made no implications of malice despite your best attempts to find me guilty of such

I have also noted that new members can be discouraged by being ignored and that is something that more established members can rectify by simply copying and pasting.

Unfortunately I am "grown up" and I do get worked up over laziness, ignorance and adolescent "it's too much trouble" attitudes.

I pointed out that it would be reasonable to object to someone claiming credit for another's original work, and I contrasted this with the petty "I seen it first" nonsense that you're talking about.

I have also noted that new members can be discouraged by being ignored and that is something that more established members can rectify by simply copying and pasting.
Can you clarify this? Copying and pasting what?

Unfortunately I am "grown up" and I do get worked up over laziness, ignorance and adolescent "it's too much trouble" attitudes.
Even if those are the actual reasons for duplicate posts, then I can't see how it's worth getting worked up over. Take a deep breath, disregard the offending thread, and move on.

Like a grown-up.

... links that can be found by a simple site search.

As to getting "worked up" you seem to find it reasonable that other people be discouraged from posting by not being credited.

Say I follow your posts and 2 days after you have posted an item I re-post the same item except sourcing it elsewhere and not crediting you. Would you think I was being fair?

I would not do that deliberately because I am not a prat and I would not do it by accident because I would, unselfishly, do a site search.

Do you really believe that people put that much effort into it? If you assert that they're too lazy to search for duplicate stories, how can you claim that they're tracking threads solely for the purpose of stealing the OP's thunder? That simply seems preposterous.

And even if it were to happen to me, I wouldn't care in the slightest. I suppose that I might indeed link to the original thread, but I certainly wouldn't get fired up about it.

Not ignored but no further responses because there are "none as blind ..."
Yeah, yeah. The old "you're closed-minded" accusation. Everybody's favorite. Next you'll call me defensive or will claim that I'm taking it too personally.
