If they are checking everyone's ID at the polling places, but I'm voting by mail, as I have for a decade now, there's no ID required for this voting.
So what good is it doing with this giant loophole?
(note: I oppose Voter ID requirements anyway, but this is one way where they seem particularly useless, especially here on the West Coast where more of us vote by mail than go to a polling place)

Our whole electoral (haha! I first typed "selectoral", and that may be closer to the truth) system is riddled with points of possible corruption.

(14,255 posts)into canals when we were, and still are, reviled for voting results. I have read that in some cases, mail votes are not even counted if there are not enough of them to change the result. And mailed-in votes can be subverted (has happened here) by mailing out forms with incorrect return addresses or dates. I have read about Floridian mail-in votes being disqualified for all sorts of things, with no opportunity given for explanations or corrections.
Maybe California is a paragon of virtue when compared to the raddled Florida system?

(46,179 posts)Our votes are counted. On the occasion that I don't get my ballot done in safe time for mailing, there's always a local drop-off box. No lines, no IDs, no procedure other than to drop it in.

(11,362 posts)States that require photo IDs will eventually have some solution for this if enough voters choose this option - probably something to do with how a voter applies to receive a ballot by mail.
