The Conservative War on the GOP

On his radio show recently, Glenn Beck urged his listeners to “defund the GOP.” Sarah Palin has threatened to leave the Republican Party; Rush Limbaugh calls it “irrelevant.” The Senate Conservatives Fund has targeted mainly incumbent Republican senators for defeat. Erick Erickson, one of the right’s most prominent commentators, wonders if what's coming is “a real third party movement that will fully divide the Republican Party.”

Conservatives have declared war on the GOP.

Tired of feeling taken for granted by a party that alternately panders to them and sells them down the river, in their view, Tea Partiers and others on the right are in revolt. The Republican Party itself is increasingly the focus of their anger, particularly after Wednesday's deal to reopen the government, which many on the right opposed. Now, many are threatening to take their business elsewhere.

“Conservatives are either going to split [from the GOP] or stay home,” Erickson, the influential editor of RedState.com and a Fox News contributor, told me. “They’ll first expend energy in primaries, but if unsuccessful, they’ll bolt.”

May this anger keep hold well into 2014.

The only way the far right got a platform was basically taking over an established political party. There aren't enough far right people in the electorate to keep their crap up.

Big business won't be too eager to feed this creature that's all too willing to go off the fiscal cliff.

Listening to RW radio this morning was fascinating. Those calling in were furious. They are blaming the moderate mainstream Republicans for not standing strong with their lunatic leaders Cruz, Lee, etc. They have been brainwashed to think the Democrats and President Obama are destroying America and now they simply cant understand why the Republican leadership just gave up. They are royally fking pissed and are threatening to primary every last one of those RINOs or they simply wont vote or who knows what they might do. Its going to be interesting to see how this plays out. It could be a major turning point for the GOP.. most likely a bad turn.

Many conservatives are furious with the GOP. What's astounding to those of us on the left is that these conservatives are furious, even when they're winning. And they are. Still.

It appears nothing will make these folks happy, and if they want to split the Republican Party as a result, I say, "More power to them!"

FreedomWorks gave Beck a million dollars...and they're running out of money.

So, really, it's self promotion - which is what most of these hucksters are about - including Ted Cruz.

They learned their lessons from Pat Robertson.

They all use the cover of religion to pretend they're doing a great work, when they're, to paraphrase Krugman, the jerk neighbor you wish would go away.

The Tea Party extremists will lose too. Their candidates believe pregnancy from rape is a blessing or God's will. I'm far far from a Republican, but they are not going to stand for platforms like that either. It works both ways. They need each other to win. Sarah Palin is full of crap, she ran for Vice President, she was the Republican governor from Alaska, now she is an outsider. She knows better, give up her republican membership and she loses her power.
