WTF? I heard on the news this morning...

... that Condi Rice has been named to the committee to select the teams for the NCAA football playoffs next year because she has a "proven track record for analyzing data and making reasoned and informed decisions..."! Seriously. And the guy didn't trip over the words or laugh or anything!!!

So I guess now we'll have the Dodgers, the Penguins, the crew from the Enterprise and Katy Perry in the playoffs! Holy crap!

Notice how it doesn't say proven positively or negatively. I don't think that's an error of omission either.

for some reason. She's no better than the "shrub" or evil Dick (Cheney). She should be universally, publicly reviled along with the rest of them.

I can't get the scene out of my head of her denying before Congress that the intel report she was given before 9-11 was clear about coming attacks, if not specific.

University of Denver, Notre Dame, Stanford, and Moscow State University. (I'd add Halliburton, but since corporations are people and not universities they won't qualify).

Rice says she's ready for the challenge.

"I have experience in decision-making under pressure, decision-making when you have to evaluate information, look at it in a variety of ways, working in a team to try to come up with good decision," Rice said in an interview with ESPN's Colin Cowherd that appeared on "Olbermann" on Wednesday night. "I think I can bring that to the committee."

Standing in the pocket as 1400# of humanity is rushing at you is decision-making under pressure.

Picking a name out of a hat is not decision-making under pressure.

The Selection Committee
By
Pat Forde
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/ncaaf--forde-yard-dash--college-football-still-acting-backwards-in-a-progressive-society-054311104.html

I have never liked her politics one bit. She was a player in some of the worst mistakes in
US history. Be that as it may, your comments verge on mysogynistic. That last sentence is a real winner.

First of all, there are others on that committee who never played football. That shouldn't be a criticism of her unless you criticize all of them. Pete Rozell never played football. You can understand football if you put some effort into it. You act like it's rocket science.

Secondly, she has been around football of her life. Her Daddy was a high school FB coach in Alabama. He taught her the game and he taught her to break down plays. In addition, she was in charge of aspects of the FB program at Stanford. She has spent time with the coaches at Stanford. She knows a lot about the nuances of the game.

Thirdly, she has tons of experience in sorting data, making decisions and working with others. Her courtesy and diplomacy will probably keep people focused on discussing the issues and not arguing about them. She also did not just jump into this. She checked all of her commitments to make sure she had the time. Then she called several conference commissioners to find out if other ADs were supportive of her being chosen. She did not want to make a difficult decision harder by her inclusion.

So have at her for all she has done in other positions. Just stop acting like she is a dolt and can't sort through what will be presented to the members choosing the playoff teams and reach a reasonable conclusion. This committee is going to be criticized no matter who they choose. She won't be a detriment in that process.

But we are talking about picking a couple of names off a list, the result of which has no lasting outcome other than to a few alumni who are going to be drunk during the games anyway. I think she has found a job she is qualified for.

Becoming a doctor requires years of training. Those skills can't be picked up by observing and learning alone.

This committee doesn't require that someone should have played football to be on it. As I said, their others on it who didn't play.

Dumping on her about this is a shot at her for other things she did in completely differnt areas. As I said, have at her for those. Using her as a punching bag on this particular issue isn't justified.

... for not knowing anything about football. I was simply noting that the New Revisionist History's take on her was that she was a competent SOS, and could analyze data rationally. I, however, think she was a leading participant in perhaps the worst failure to analyze data and act accordingly in recent history. You know, the one "no one could anticipate". It would be like saying Romney should be named to the board of a social charity program because "he can relate to the 47%". It just doesn't sound right.

I don't care if she knows nothing about football (she's from Alabama, so I would guess she does anyway - we all do here), and it makes no difference to me that she's a woman. My wife can out-analyze Herbstreit when it comes to Bama's dime package substitution and "Mike" shift on third and long (now you know why I love her!!). I just think Condi is incapable of genuinely reflective thought, can't see the forest for the imaginary horde of Muslim extremists charging across the meadow, and has problems with reading comprehension.

And, really - I was making a joke. Irony, sort of. Hurt my neck doing the double-take kind of thing. I meant no lasting harm.

Rice has a very different world view than we do. I don't agree with her at all.

However, dolt means a stupid person. There are a lot of terms you can use to describe Rice, but dolt is not one of them. Malicious, evil, scheming, war-monger, and many other terms can arguably be applied.

However, mock her intelligence at your peril. By calling her a dolt, you run the risk of underestimating her. While you are busy calling her names, she will be miles ahead of you in planning ahead.

... I don't really think she's stupid, either. In fact, I suspect she's quite brilliant (in a dangerous kind of way). Just not someone I'd depend on for analyzing data when she has an agenda up her sleeve.
