I Posted This Thread A Long Time Ago In The Old DU It Was About Mounting A "Raise The Cap" Campaign.

It seems we have a relatively easy fix to Social Security and that is "Lifting or Raising The Cap". I keep posting this thread because I believe a "LIft the Cap" or "Raise the Cap" campaign can be mounted that can be quite effective to get the American People behind this idea.

Essentially show pictures of people from all walks of life - lifting or raising their caps - in support of Congress "Lifting or Raising the current caps on Social Security". Here's an example:

Here's the link to my previous post that has a whole bunch of pics like this: (check out the pics at this link)

http://election.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x1818709

Think about how effective simple images like this can be - with some voice over about the current cap; how people making more money don't contribute; about fairness; and what lifting or raising the cap would mean to the long term viability of Social Security.

I still think a tv commercial - or a 'you tube' clip that can go viral - with pics of all sorts of people 'raising or lifting' their caps - would be a very poignant way of the American People voicing their support for 'raising or lifting the cap' to solidify "Social Security".

Does anyone know why the Dems and the President couldn't support "Raising or Lifting The Cap"

I know Sen. Bernie Sanders keeps mentioning this - almost everytime I hear him speak.

I challenge fellow DU'ers here to post pics in this thread - of people lifting or raising their caps.

Come on folks - this is almost a no-brainer.

up with to try to scare the people into believing that SS is in trouble or caused the deficit etc. This is going to be the real test for Democrats now. This is really what all this was about.

With such easy solutions as eliminating the Cap and creating jobs constantly out there, which I am hoping we will now be seeing from Dems, since they discovered we do NOT have to compromise with lunatics, hopefully all this talk of 'fixing' SS by 'cutting' and it IS cutting benefits to try to shove this Chained CPI garbage down people's throats, will get the same treatment the demands for the ACA got.

I love this idea, thank you.

this is great news. He's against 'chained CPI' and he's always been a strong proponent to "Lifting or Raising The Cap".

A campaign such as I'm suggesting in my original post - would be very timely now and would help Sen. Sanders immensely - giving him the voice and support of the American People - if we were able to pull a campaign like this off.

Any suggestions as to how to make this happen?

Again - if people here on DU - get on this bandwagon and post pics of everyday people from all walks of life raising or lifting their caps and if we can get threads like this put on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube - go viral - we just might be able to get this on the radar for this budget committee to consider.

I'm still trying to determine - who is against this and why? What would be the downside of this? The wealthy making above the current cap wouldn't even miss the money.

Come on people - get behind this!!!!!!!!!

Find some pics to support this - take your own pics - and begin to post them here!!!!!!!!

.... by 1% to 7%, (and this is for everybody. For seniors it is even worse, since the "basket of goods" that seniors purchase continues to inflate at a faster rate than goods in general, whose inflationary rate has been intentionally UNDERstated since the 1990's.

"Chained CPI", rather than correcting this intentional fraud, would make it worse, using language and sleight of hand to attempt to bamboozle Americans with manipulated statistics.

Every Democrat should pledge to support Senators Harkin and Sanders in their resolution opposing "chained CPI", and support Sen. Harkin's efforts to INCREASE COLA's by means of "CPI-E".

The best defense is a good offense.

In fact, if we only play defense, we guarantee that we will lose, and the only question is when.

I hope all Democrats will join them as we no longer need to compromise with the Right especially on issues of such importance to the most vulnerable people.

I think even college kids and young adults could get behind this - because it would assure that SS would be around to take care of them in their old age.

See how easy it is folks - to get the point across.

Please take the time to post your own Lift The Cap pics. Please put this out on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

We need to give this campaign some support. Can anybody get this thread to Senator Bernie Sanders. I think he'd appreciate it.

The only ones against this would be how many?

I never really understood why this is not used as a legitimate way to shore up Social Security. Medicare isn't capped, why should Social Security be capped?

Unfortunately, the global neoliberals of both parties "in charge" are committed to unsustainable growth on a finite planet. It's just the Tea Party fascist haters seem to think that jettisoning the poor and minorities is the way to have access to resources, since we have no more colonial outposts from which to pilfer wealth. The folks committed to the myth of perpetual progress (usually liberals) think we can innovate and spend our way out of this mess.

I most certainly agree that reducing income inequality would squeeze out more resources for everyone in the short term.

For the intermediate term, though, raising the debt ceiling is the only way (in addition to equitable income redistribution) a government _could_ put a pro-jobs, pro-benefits package into place, which could get us to a much position from which longer term strategies for sustainability could begin to grow.

So, in that context, your branding concept is brilliant. My cap is off to you!

I have to admit that I'm personally enjoying the cap now. During the last few months of the year I bring home an extra few hundred dollars because of the cap, but I'd give that up for the common good.

Of course, if I'm paying more in taxes on an upper middle class income, I want to see no cap at all, and other taxes raised on those far wealthier than me.
