Thank World War II veteran Redge Ranyard for appearing in the powerful ad.

Late last night, Congress voted to end the self-inflicted damage caused by the Tea Party-led government shutdown.

We're pleased that many of our friends and family members are back at work, and that others will receive the care and benefits they've earned through service to their country.

And we're also proud of the role you played in helping to end the crisis.

Three weeks ago, General Wesley Clark sent an email asking people to sign a petition and share their thoughts about the shutdown. One of the messages we received was from a World War II veteran living in Oregon.

We turned his story into a television ad and thanks to thousands of VoteVets supporters who stepped up to amplify his voice, we were able to put nearly $150,000 behind the buy.

But it all started with people like you making their voices heard through VoteVets.org.

We'd like to thank World War II veteran Redge Ranyard for appearing in our ad, and I am certain he'd love to read a few messages from you. Join us in thanking him here:

I can't tell you how many letters I received from Congressmen and members of the media about the impact your voice -- the voices of veterans and military family members -- had in this fight.

We made a real difference, not just in ending the crisis, but for all of the families who depend on our entire government being open.

All the best,

After receiving General Wesley Clark's email last week, I responded with my personal story about how the shutdown impacts my life, while expressing my disgust with the Republican Party's politicization of the World War II Memorial shortly after the shutdown began.

I served this nation with honor. Today, I can't say the same thing about most Republicans in Congress.

Thank you for standing up for me,

Redge Ranyard
