First Larry Summers, now Ray Kelly. Damn you, Obama.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/obama-to-nominate-jeh-johnson-former-pentagon-official-as-next-dhs-secretary/2013/10/17/74eb8856-3768-11e3-ae46-e4248e75c8ea_story.html

President Obama will nominate Jeh Johnson, formerly the Pentagon’s top lawyer and a key figure in the administration’s debate over the legality of drone use, to head the Department of Homeland Security, according to White House officials.

The official announcement will take place at 2 p.m. Friday at the White House. Johnson, if confirmed by the Senate, would succeed Janet Napolitano, who announced she was leaving the cabinet post in July.

How many more centrist/conservadem hearts is he going to break?

I can only think of one worse choice than Ray Kelly.

Let's hope the reaction to this awful choice will be similar to the one re Summers.

It will be good for NYers to get rid of him finally, but terrible for the country.

already, better to be sure than sorry. I am very glad at the outrage expressed when his name was even mentioned for any position of power in this government. Hopefully the message has been received in case he is in the running for any other nomination.

Too bad we didn't express the same outrage over Clapper, Right Wing Republican, Bush loyalist, or Comey, or any of the other Republicans who have been appointed to the cabinet of this president.

I don't support Republicans or wanna- be-Republicans like Ray Kelly.

It's interesting that you would post something that you expected would be greeted with outrage.

I am very glad that Liberals have decided to jump the gun from now on, when it comes to these nominations to a Democratic Cabinet. We were far too 'polite', not wanting to give anything to the other side. That was a FAILED strategy. What we got were REPUBLICANS returned to power after we threw them out.

Why did you think that a Ray Kelly nomination would be believable in the first place? Here's why, because it is believable considering the nominations we already have had. Republicans, Monsanto and Wall St Execs not to mention Defense Contractors et al, which is NOT what 'elect Democrats' means.

You OP is very revealing frankly. So thanks for that. I like it when people acknowledge and confirm something people have been pointing out for a long time. So thanks for that.

There was really no reason to think he was. The Obama/Holder DOJ had criticized the NYPD for its rampant racial profiling.

was in the running for such a nomination. Obama has expressed opposition to the views of most Republicans eg, yet he nominated so many of them now I have lost count. What makes you think that expressing disagreement with someone on one issue, would have prevented him from nominating Kelly, who at least claims to be Democrat?

Do you think he supports all the views of Comey and Clapper eg? Maybe he does actually, I had not thought of that.

As for Kelly, he heads one of the most corrupt PDs in the country, currently embroiled in so many scandals I have lost count.

And anytime anyone even whispers his name as a potential candidate for anything other than a serious investigation, I will react, in as knee jerk a fashion as possible.

So what was your point with what you obviously thought was a clever 'trick'?

It wasn't, btw, for all the reasons I have already outlined. It was far too likely considering the history here to even think of it as 'not a possibility'. Do you understand that now? I believe you do which is why you posted this. You know it was a serious possibility considering all the others, right? That's what this OP says to me.

happy that the trial balloons created such a negative reaction just in case the news that he was in the running, was true. It is always good to speak out, as many did, BEFORE it is too late. I have zero problem jumping the gun on someone like that. Better safe than sorry.

Al Qaeda is whoever the President decides it is. No review by the courts.

Premeditated execution of citizens with no check or balance.

After leaving the Pentagon last year, he publicly questioned the idea of an indefinite war against terrorism.

“War violates the natural order of things, in which children bury their parents; in war parents bury their children,” Johnson said in a speech at the Oxford Union last November. “In its 12th year, we must not accept the current conflict, and all that it entails, as the ‘new normal.’ ”

I guess it doesn't fit the everybody President Obama appoints is a scoundrel narrative.
