After that series of horrible tweats she made also insulting Sandra Fluke. The woman calls herself a 'Christian' yet show me where Jesus would tweat wretched crap like "If every Tweaton sent Georgetown Gal one condom, her parents wouldn't have to cancel basic cable, & she would never reproduce -- sound good?"

(11,304 posts)off naturally. I think she has her freedom of speech and we have our freedoms not to watch her show. I think what happens to Limpy is right. But whose freedom do we want to control next? Moore's, Big Ed, Maddow? There are some people that are nuts.

(31,234 posts)extreme political leanings, I was out. Same with Frasier (Kelsey Grammer). I don't know why Repukes haven't learned to keep their mouths shut about their politics, b/c once I find out who they are, I'm done with them. They claim to be blackballed in Hollywood once they go public, but I don't think it's so much Hollywood as it is their former fans.

(11,304 posts)What a creep he is. Of course I never watched his show either. Then I found out that he is on the a teabagger and I knew I would never watch anything he does. I try not to black ball these people but when they say things like Heaton and Grammer say I just can't.

"Hey GTown Gal: How about only having sex on Wednesday? (Hump day!)," Heaton wrote in a tweet last Thursday.
Patty was having a thumping good time attacking Ms. Fluke.

(3,469 posts)I know many here aren't fans of twitter but it has become an extremely effective tool for protest. It may seem lazy compared to protesting in person but it's also harder for them to ignore. Same with Facebook. Go to ABC's Facebook page. The Middle probably has its own page, too.

(13,905 posts)I dissed it for quite a while, but finally tried it and it's great. I don't actually tweet much, but I get a lot of great links concerning stuff I'm into, both political and non-political.
Arab Spring is what caused me to reconsider social networking sites like Twitter & Facebook.

(12,132 posts)now I can't watch it.
She could have the funniest lines in sitcom history but all I will be able to think is she sided with Rush Limbaugh against a woman who just didn't want her friend to be sick.
Goodbye Brick, See ya on your next show, Janitor Guy. I'm done with this one.

(2,286 posts)She wasn't using the TV show as a way to broadcast her opinions.
I don't agree with her and she's an idiot, but she did it on her private Twitter account, not as a part of a show. I don't think we want to create an environment in which people should be threatened for voicing their opinions as a citizen.

(1,735 posts)She may be an idiot, but, we do have Freedom of Speech here in this country. She was speaking as a private citizen, not using the public airways to denigrate Ms. Fluke. Why should anyone care what a second rate actress thinks about a subject? I'd hate to have my livelihood threatened because I posted on DU.
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)knowing what I do now? Of course she has a right to say whatever she wants. Nobody is arguing against that. I don't like what she said. I have a right to not listen to people who say hateful things. So now if I were to watch her show, I would only be able to think of the hateful things she said instead of enjoying the show. I don't have time to watch things I won't enjoy.
Are you posting here under your real name? If your boss googles jehop will he find some stuff you don't want him to see? If not, you probably don't need to worry about it. Patricia Heaton, under her own public name, tried to be funny by making fun of an innocent girl who just wanted her friend to be able to get the healthcare she needed. She was piling on with Rush Limbaugh becasue she agreed with Rush Limbaugh and I have to wonder if she even knew what Ms Fluke said in her testimony. But it didn't occur to her actually check it out. She just thought she'd score some easy ditto points by siding with Rush. Well it cost her me. I didn't even know about all her other views and, frankly, I probably could have still watched her show knowing them - She's anti-choice. OK, So was my mom. That's a view I don't agree with but I can understand it. But my mom never got on public twitter and bashed some poor girl who stood up for a friend.
I'd hate to have my livelihood threatened by anything I post on DU too. So I try not to say dumbass things that would get me fired.

(13,496 posts)I don't think you should if you find her reprehensible.
I have no problem with protesting by boycotting. It's effective.
I do have a problem, however, with insisting she be fired for writing her views on twitter. Because I have views others won't like, and if I shared them publicly and someone fired me for them, I'd find that very unfair.
Now, if she's fired because people won't watch the show because she's on it... that's another thing.

(4,723 posts)How disturbing it is for an adult to act this way. I find it disturbing enough when teenagers act like this. Teenagers are punished for this kind of bullying, at least sometimes. When an adult like this "actress" does it, I see it happening less often. Patricia Heaton should be ashamed of herself.

(8,556 posts)I don't really know who Patricia Heaton is. I certainly haven't heard of 'The Middle.' But going after celebrities for their beliefs is really a lost cause. I would have trouble going after anybody for this, knowing how many celebs believe in Xenu, 9/11 Truth, ghosts, 5 percenterism, or whatever other wacky thing.
What's continually odd to me is how people get worked up over a celebrity's personal beliefs, but often give them a pass on genuine criminal behavior with real, live victims. There's strong evidence that R. Kelly is a pedophile. Tupac did time for rape (forced sodomy, actually). Boy George essentially kidnapped a sex partner. John Lennon was possibly physically abusive to his first wife, and so on and so forth.
I'm not saying that people shouldn't criticize Heaton for this. But it's a little unfair to single out celebrities for their beliefs when we give them passes on real criminal behavior.

Political and social advocacy
Heaton is a consistent life ethicist and is supportive of pro-life groups and causes, opposing abortion, euthanasia, and the death penalty.[6] Heaton's advocacy became particularly visible during the debate regarding the Terri Schiavo case.[11] In addition, Heaton is Honorary Chair of Feminists for Life, an organization which opposes abortion and embryonic stem cell research and supports other pro-life causes on the basis of feminism.[6]
Patricia Heaton and family in Indianapolis 500 Parade, May 2008.
Heaton's name was in an advertisement in the Los Angeles Times (17 August 2006) that condemned Hamas and Hezbollah and supported Israel in the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict.[12]
In October 2006, Heaton appeared in a commercial opposing a Missouri state constitutional amendment concerning embryonic stem cell research, which subsequently passed. The advertisement was a response to the election of Democratic Senate hopeful Claire McCaskill and ran at about the same time as Michael J. Fox's advertisement supporting the amendment.[6] Appearing with Heaton were actor Jim Caviezel, pitcher Jeff Suppan, then of the St. Louis Cardinals, Mike Sweeney of the Seattle Mariners and quarterback Kurt Warner, formerly of the St. Louis Rams and the Arizona Cardinals.[13] Following a public outcry, Heaton later said she regretted doing the ad and sent an apology to Fox, claiming she wasn't aware of Fox's ad before she did hers. Fox accepted her apology and later stated that If we can have a healthy dialogue about issues that people see differently, thats marvelous.[6]

(95,337 posts)similar to the one I posted all degrading 'Georgetown Gal'.
Celebrities make mistakes all the time. Hell I've even looked past what Tracy Morgan said because it was a one-off thing and he's tried to make good for the poor choice of words.
But I understand where you are coming from and it's a fair point.
