Photographer Liz Belfor has shot many ceremonies for same-sex couples, like this one pictured above on Kaua‘i’s Eastside. Diana Gardner, former president of Kaua‘i Wedding Professionals Association, said the industry got a slight bump since last year’s legalization of civil unions in Hawai‘i. Last week, she launched a new business, Engayged Hawai‘i, catering exclusevily to same-sex couples.

LIHU‘E — With the Obama administration urging the Supreme Court to strike down California’s ban on gay marriage, the case could have sweeping implications for the right of same-sex couples to wed.

“It’s an important issue for all people,” said U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawai‘i, on a recent visit to Kaua‘i.

While California won’t have a direct impact for same-sex couples in Hawai‘i, it potentially opens the door to overturning the federal Defense of Marriage Act, or DOMA, which allows marriage to be governed by states.

The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the Proposition 8 case Mar. 26.

A day later, the justices will hear arguments on another gay marriage case, this one involving provisions of DOMA.

And, Hawai'i's stance as of right now FYI...

HONOLULU — Gov. Neil Abercrombie on Monday called for a special legislative session to move forward on a bill that would legalize gay marriage.

If lawmakers pass a bill, Hawaii would join 13 U.S. states and the District of Columbia in allowing gay marriage. The special session is scheduled to begin Oct. 28.

Though it was different friends (heh, obviously). An invitation came in the mail earlier this week from dear old friends that said, "After 32 years together, X and Y are getting married!"

Thanks for making it finally legal in CA! Now, I wish I could go to the wedding. But we'll have to just send a present.

All three accomplishments.

I'm so proud of MY STATE of Maryland! As for VA, although McAuliff isn't my favorite Democrat, I'm rooting for him. ABC (Anybody but Cuccinelli)
