continue to support other Clear Channel shows like Hannity, Savage, et al? If this doesn't hurt Clear Channel, how does it hurt Rush? I want to believe that these advertisers are being noble here, but if they're still subsidizing the company that employs Rush, where's the damage, and how does this impact Rush's personal income?

Advertisers pay big bucks to run their ads, so if several pull their ads, OxyRush is no longer moneymaker.

As far as clearchannel goes, let's just take one victory at a time.

My "concern" was that Randi Rhodes is also a Clear Channel employee, and has many of the same advertisers. It's good to know that the advertisers supporting Randi won't be supplementing Rush's income.

...not the others. I think that would be Socialism.

If Clear Channel can't make money off Rush, then he's worthless to them. Pretty sure the rest of the clowns wouldn't cut their salaries to keep his face stuffed with cigars and doughnuts. In fact, I bet they're all hoping this boycott works so they can take his spot.

I guess one poster was, in essence, calling me a "concern" troll.

I figured there were professionals on the board who know the radio industry inside & out, but I never understood exactly how it works. I've seen the list of sponsors who have dropped him, and if I've never spent money with them before, I certainly will now.

I was about to point out his/her error, but you handled it so well!

My father owned one of the largest ad agencies in Chicago at one time. Though that was many, many...many...years ago, I've retained a lot of useless knowledge. Advertisers are some of the smartest people on the planet when it comes to human nature. They see trends before any of us normal folk do. Rush has been edging closer to the cliff lately and they were probably already getting nervous. Despite how many of us feel about corporations, they still don't want their names tied to controversy. It's up to their ad agencies to protect them. When we hear "so and so pulled their ads" it was likely that there was a frantic ad man whispering in the ear of the CEO. It's better to cut losses and avoid further damage than to let your client go down with the ship. It also makes the ad agency the hero in the eyes of the CEO.

Those ad dollars are already spent. Pulling the ads means they've lost money (depending on the contract). But, they've gained some free publicity that attaches their name to a "good" cause. Damage repaired.

So, yeah... to the ad agencies, too!

one who feels the pain. Like I said, Randi Rhodes, and I may be mistaken about this one, but I think maybe Stephanie Miller both work for Premiere. If I'm wrong, someone will correct me.

As long as Rush is the only one getting his ass handed to him, I'm as snug as a bug in a rug.

AOL and ProFlowers (maybe more) have only promised to "suspend" advertising.

Suspend, by definition, means a temporary stop. Don't let up on the sponsors until they clarify what they mean. So far, several have resorted to the weasel words of advertising and public relations.

Micheal Vic was suspended from the NFL. Once his parole was finished, he was reinstated with a multi-million dollar contract.

It is the job of an ad person to choose words wisely and they chose suspend, not terminate.
